Do you guys think GM will NOT use the Stingray name on the Z06 to keep the marketing/ looks different? I get the feeling they are only using "Stingray" on the base as to not have to say "Base car".

You have to have a marketing degree from an institution of higher learning to be able to know these things.

1985 Corvette

This is something in general I have pondered about concerning Corvette. I know a lot of the guys that buy into the Z car want a certain level of distinction but it's still a Chevy and a Corvette to the rest of the automotive world. There have been a few guys say, "I don't have a Corvette, I have a Z06".....and that has always made me chuckle some.

I hope they do use the Stingray name on the Z's as well. If they follow the same history as the C2 & C3 generations, they will be.

I will admit to being one of those who referred to owning "a Z06", although without purposefully meaning to, if that makes sense If I had to mention my car to somebody I knew had zero knowledge of Corvettes, I would simply say I own "a Corvette" if I caught myself quick enough hehehe...

I always thought of it as a "I'm really happy to own one and can't wait to talk about it" pride thing, as opposed to a "I'm better than a non-Z06 Corvette owner" kind of pride...

I understand where you are coming from Geoff. I don't own a Corvette, but I do own a Shelby GT500 (really interested in the new Z06 or ZR1 (if they make one) for my next hot rod) and while I completely understand that it is a Mustang, I always refer to it as the Shelby. Just a pride in ownership thing.

Expect to see the Corvette Stingray & The Corvette Z06.

Expect no fish on the side of the Z06 and a Z06 badge on the console.

I also think part of the reason for the Stingray name and badge on the base model is to give the model more distinction and a more special feeling than past base models.

You know the " new" logo dates to the Mitchell Sting Ray racer from 1959 ?? It is a nod to Corvette tradition and history.

I agree that NO Stingray emblem should be on the ZO6. I personally can't stand it and would remove it at any rate but I think it would be a better distinction to have it badged ZO6 only. And that crappy chrome strip in the grille while we are at it.

This was answered a long time ago by GM themselves. The term "Stingray" is meant to infer "base" version. I can remember which executive it was, but I believe it was Ed who said they found last generation that people were excited to call their Corvette a Grand Sport, a Z06 or a ZR1 model. But those that bought the base version were not excited about calling theirs a "base" version.

So for the C7 they have decided to give the base version a name. And that name is Stingray. Expect the Z06 or higher performance version to have its own name/official designation. I fully expect to see four different models available next year. The Corvette Stingray coupe & convertible.. and The Corvette Z06 coupe & convertible.

I think the word "Stingray" was devoted to the C7 model in general rather than to base version So I won't be surprised to see "Z06 Stingray"
