Chris Harris Video: C7 Stingray vs 991 Carrera S

Scraping the splitter.
Interesting how Chris Harris drove home the cost-dependent point.
It's also funny how nearly every 911 that is provided to the media for testing is a loaded up $130k+ car. MT had a $152k 911 4S to test against the Ferrari and C7 a few months ago. Go look at inventory at any number of Porsche dealers, you'll look for quite some time before you find a 911 S (or 4S) that has CCB's and probably many of the options the cars that PNA gives to the press for testing have.
Just an observation...

The results of some of these comparisons depend on exactly WHO is doing the testing/evaluating.
There's often a great deal of subjectivity or personal opinion involved as well of course.
Are they measuring lap times and braking distances or "carpeting plushness" and sound system clarity.
Show me the 1/4 mile numbers, the Laguna Seca lap times, the base prices and the 100-0 braking distances. I'll decide which one "looks" better to me.

Chris Harris is a Porsche guy, has been for years and years, not surprising he likes the 911 better, it's what he been driving and has owned for years.

But it was still an enjoyable video. I certainly gained some insight into the character of each car....something that isn't always unveiled by specs, performance numbers and track times.

I really enjoyed his take - seemed very fair. And for a lot of people, value does come into the equation. For some that little bit of better warrants another $50-75K and for others why pay so much more for less fun?
From what I read and gear it really seems that the European journalist prefer the Porsche and the American journalists prefer the Corvette. Perhaps there's just some cultural difference there in what people like in cars, no? That's fine.

There is a reason why I drive a corvette and not a Porsche... Just like he said the vette cost as much as the options on the Porsche kinda crazy if you ask me. What more are you really getting for all that extra coin??? Not much in my opinion, both cars are "supercars" and hey if money was no object then yea I might have bought a Porsche but I'm no millionaire I'm just a guy that loves cars and a vette is just more practical in my opinion. Plus the vette looks like more fun to drive around the track then that Porsche DRIFFFFTTTTTT!!!!!

Well MT also said that the 911 handles better than the C7 and that it probably the best damped car in the planet, so is not surprising that Harris saids that the 911 feels more solid, that is less prone to oversteer and that it handles bumps better.

Hmmm.... really??? Look what car is in 7th ranking, 11th, and finally in 18th place. Seem to me that the stock Stingray is wiping the floor with the GT3. The new ZO6 will be so much faster, likely even outlap the record holder ZR1, than the GT3 that it will be purely embarrassing for Porsche to be even shown in such comparison.

This comparion is more about handling than which car is faster.

Without lap times it's a pretty useless review. Then comparing PDK to a 6 speed auto is really unfair. Would have liked to seen the C7 with a MT.
I believe the 991 has wider tires and 200 lbs lighter then the C7. With that is mind it should handle great. Though I think lack on torque also makes the car feel more stable where the torque in the C7 will bite you when you get on throttle too hard.
What I got from it that the C7 is a very fun car while the Porsche is a sublime driving machine that has taken all the fun out of it by doing all the driving.

I hate to say it, but I got more information abut the C7's handling from this video than from all the posts I have read on this forum. It sounds like the basic handling is pretty much like the C5 and C6, that is prone to oversteer, and will probably need some tweaking to reduce that. I've always been surprised that GM puts out a car that is so prone to oversteer.

To the extent that the C7 "is so prone to oversteer" it is because of prodigious power; a great deal more than the Porsche.
The whole comparo premise of this video is bogus, but great fun anyway.
