It's true, I saw it as well. There are not that many c7z vids at this point. It was one of the first vids, the car was yellow. May have been the unveiling video. They showed the car then interviewed Tadge and he made that comment.

Yes I have seen that video. It set the record on the first outing, but there is no quanitifcation of by how much. No use of "significant margin" or a time difference given which is what I was questioning.

So the final product...and that's all that's going to matter...will be even faster.....
We will know soon enough how much the margin is.
That margin is only going to grow wider
....and its significant that it only starts at 78k base ....
This car is a game changer.........

It's unprecedented for a Corvette to do that it's first time out on a track.

Milford road course
... The first time out....right out of the box
....a "really beat up"...computer generated suspension tuned prototype C7Z
...with the first submission tires from Michelin ... broke the record for the track held by the C6 ZR1.
Tadge said it was " very shocking"

But we won't know what the car is actually capable of in private owner's hand until well into 2015, maybe not even until the November/December 2015 'test & tune' season.

Also listening to Tadge, he gives credit to the advancement in tire tech, the advancements in computer modeling, and the ability to transfer the aero tech from the race car as to why they were so fast out of the box. Because of the technology, they were able to get closer to optimum right out of the box. While there will be gains, I don't think it will be as much as previous generations because the technology allowed them to be so good from the get go.

Never said it would not get faster. I have heard people on here claim that it "annihilated" the record, was "significantly" faster, or beat it by over 1 sec. So far I can't find where any of that was actually stated. It could have beat it by .1 sec or 10 sec, we don't really know.

Yes and no. We will find out the final results, but will we find out how much they improved over where they started? Most likely not, since they have not really given that type of info in the past. It would be cool if they did.
I was really looking forward to the VIR time by Mero, but since they repaved and widend the track last winter the times will not really be comparable. Running just the full course, the times have been ~2 sec a lap faster.

Plus stickier rubber? Sticker than those Pilot Sport Cups that basically had painted on treads and a non-racing street life of maybe 7000 miles or so? Plus, really pretty scary to drive in any moderate-heavy rain? These "slicks" were available on the '13 Z cars, but not really a very wise choice for any car predominantly driven on the street.
What are the new stickier tires you are referencing? Seriously, I really want to know.
Also, the last generation Z cars had aero and considerably more aero than just front splitters - such as "Gurney Lips" etc. This is NOT to say the new cars do not have more. I think the vented hood is the biggest upgrade, which is why I have a Halltech Dred C/F vented hood on my Z.

Michelin tires or anyone elses. Way better than any C-6 tires minus the cups which are far between. Not a real factor on everyday tires!
Since like you said are just dry track tire.
