Default Value for C6 Z06-scum dealer

I had filled out a information page to check on the value on my c6 Z06 since I have a deposit on the new one coming out next year. I thought I find out what the trade in/ retail price looks like. I get an email from Bill Kay here locally and they want to see my vette to buy it....I dealt with the in the past and they have always been scummy. But I thought what the heck good entertainment value and boy did they tried to low ball my car. I have a 08' red with every option available in 08' 27k mile. and they offered me 35k ...WTF they keep saying winter is coming that's why....I told them I have a garage so I am good. They are the same ones that want 5 k. over MSRP on Stingray and 10k over MSRP on Z06 Talk about scumbags. Anyone else have any scum bag stories.

35k for a 2008 z06 as a trade in to a dealer sounds pretty close. Your comments about "scum" are out of line. Tell you what you invest 10s of millions of dollars in a venture and buy all your product for 2 percent less than what you can sell it for and see how long you stay in business. Have a wonderful day.

apparently you have an opinion without reading my post, it wasn't a trade...they wanted to buy it straight up, and no it was not out of line.

I think they are part of an supply/demand process.

They sell higher because of high demand.
They offer a low price for yours because the demand is definitely not as high with the new models coming out and also because they need to make a profit.

The profit they can make will be diminished by the fact that demand in the winter for sports cars is abysmal and because they need to support the cost of inventory for your unsold car sitting on their lot.

I'm sure you understand all of this. Why you think they are scumbags is what puzzles me. It's just the supply/demand law at work.

There are 43 C6 Z06's for sale on the first 2 pages of the C6 Corvettes For Sale section on this site alone.
There are 88 C6 Z06's on eBay, including a number of cars in the ~$40-45k range with similar or fewer miles.

Maybe the dealer figures they might be able to take the car to auction and get ~$40k if they can't sell it now that it's heading into the fall/winter season. If so, $35k seems reasonable. You could always counter their offer.

What's the difference?
They're going to "buy it straight up" to do what with it?

Well, since winter is coming, and that lowers the value temporarily, obviously they're marking down all the c7's they have in stock until spring, right?

The difference is if he was trading it in on another car he would reduce his tax burden. Thus, he would be getting more than $35 for the car.

That is a reasonable offer for what the current auction prices are. Dealers aren't putting a lot of money into inventory that may sit all winter long.

That's not true in all states. Some states do reduce the sales tax owed when you do a trade-in. Others (VA, for instance) do not. I dunno if IL does or not.

$35K doesn't seem out of line.

I'm not sure I'm following. Whether it is a trade-in or they are writing a check, they need to make a margin on the sale - i.e. trade-in and them buying it from you should be about the same number.

35k might be a little light - but not much. I might have hoped for 37k, but not much more. If you were doing a private party sale, yes - this is low.

$35k is about as good as it would get from a dealer offer... Whether it's a trade or buy... They need to sell it to make money but they don't need to buy it from you. If you are that butthurt... How about selling it yourself privately for $40k...

Black Book average wholesale is 34100 as of 9/8/14 Clean wholesale is 38700. 35k is probably a little light for a really nice low mileage car but not totally out of line. I would think in Florida that car does close to clean book at auction. Other areas of the country will differ.

FWIW, I can confirm trading a car in to a dealer in IL would lower his tax burden for a new vehicle purchase.
