Default A8 and vert on the assembly line today.

Well I'm on my way back from the first half of my buyers tour today. Great fun and definitely worth doing if you get the chance.
Whilst following my car I saw an A8 Z06 and also a convertible Z06 being built in amongst the rest. Won't be long now those that have had to wait.

Great news for us A8 folks! How did you know they were A8s? I just wish we were given the thumbs up to place our orders already.

Only saw one of each. There was a big fan over the transmission cooler that was installed. I asked my guide and he went and checked with the builders Wii confirmed it was an A8

I saw a few last week as well (verts and coupes with A8s). There is a big A on the top left hand corner of one of the build sheets on the A8s and a big M on the top left hand corner of the M7s. They have this build sheet taped on the front of the car as it goes down the line.

I was not sure what you said. Wil ? confirmed it was an A8? Regarding the fan over the transmission cooler do you think that is the fix to the overheating problem reported for the A8? Did you see this fan on M7s Z06s or on A8 stingrays? In other words was this unique to the Z06 A8. If so that might be the fix which appears to now moved to production.

Are you sure, I am number 731, it hasn't been built yet, the highest number I have seen on the Vin list is 533?

I'm VIN 711. The Manual Z06s do not have the fan, nor do the stingrays unless they are the Z51 package but the fan seemed to be smaller I think. That is definitely the cooling fix (or a part of it) I would say.

You won't know until you ask. But keep an eye out for him. He walks through the plant pretty frequently.

For what it's worth, he answered every question I asked him when I had the opportunity to talk with him in person at the 20th Anniversary event back in August.

I went back and finished my tour today so my car has been born

The red vert that I saw interestingly had body coloured vents on it. Side and hood only. The lower rear and spoiler remained carbon flash... Supposedly it was a customers car as the VIN was in the normal range. Personally I didn't like the body coloured bit but each to their own.

A local dealership's GM stated "A8 Z06 production starts today"... hmm, accurate? Anyone else hear similar?
