Default C6 vs C7 Z06 Top Speed

I've seen estimated top speed figures of the C7 Z06 (non-Z07) in the mid 190's. This was roughly the figure quoted for the C6 LS3 (192), less than the C6 Z06 (198) and far less than the ZR-1 (205). With more power on tap and better aerodynamics (again non-Z07), does anyone know why this car wouldn't exceed, or at least meet the ZR-1 top speed?

There are plenty of threads on this topic. In short, the car was designed to be a TRACK CAR not a DRAG CAR. The Aero packages affect the high speed overall.

Maybe it's built for good handling and not to simply be a straight line racer

Well the estimated top speed for the C7 Stingray is 190 mph I believe. Then you have the C6 LS3 at 192 mph top speed. Now here is a big question.......which car would get to 190 first? And note this can not be done on public highway. These two cars won't be side by side from the start. I believe this would be the same scenario with the C6 ZR1 and the C7 Z06. In addition, I believe the C6 LS3 and the C6 ZR1 are going to play catch up. Me personally, I rather be up front. Just my .02

Actually I think the New Z06 looks like it's going 200mph standing still. Hey as long as I look good going 65 that's enough for me.

B/c it has more aero-drag, only 12 more horsepower, and weighs 200 more pounds than the C6 ZR1.

But it sure is SWEET and a complete animal on both a road race track, street, and the A8 auto, should kick some serious azz on a drag strip.

C5/6/7 base cars have .29 cd.
C6 Z06 has .34 Cd and Z07 has .35 Cd.
C6 ZR1 has .35 cd.
C7 Z06 has .35 Cd and Z07 has .37 Cd.

C7 Z06 base has no worse aero drag than the C6 ZR1 with it's 205 MPH top speed or the C6 Z06 with it's 198 MPH top speed..

Just wondering were you got the Cd numbers for the new Z06?

Also 2 cars can have the same Cd and one have more drag than the other. Frontal area is part of the equation.

From the Corvette chief engineer.

The C5 base has 21.7 sq ft frontal area and the C6 base has 22 sq ft frontal area. The base C6 is .200" wider at the front than the base C5, and is 1" taller in height.

While the base C7 is slightly wider than the base C6, it is also lower in height vs the C6. I have not measured the width of a C7 across the front fenders to see exactly how much wider it is over the C6. .

The wide body C6's are slightly wider than the base cars and the C7 Z06 is also slightly wider than the base C7. I doubt if there is much, if any, difference in frontal area between a C6 wide body and the C7 Z07.

You need to come out west and run the Mojave Magnum ( 1 1/2 mile trap speed event) on a good day

Just think what the c4 body style would do with the lt4. At least 210.
