Default 2016 CTS-V reaches its top speed on 7th

The new Caddy come with 2.85 standard final drive ratio.
Depend on the calculation, its top speed can be reached only in 7th.
Am I right?a
Why doesn't the new C7Z come with 2.85?
The 0-60, 1/4 mile, high top acceleration, top speed, track performance will be all improved.

A 2.85 might help 0-60 and 1/4 mile times a little in the Z06 but it wouldn't make any difference in the top speed.

200 MPH in the Z06 with the 2.41 rear gear and the 1.00 6th gear = 6090 RPM with a final gear ratio of 2.41.

200 MPH in the Z06 with the 2.85 rear gear and the .85 7th gear = 6125 RPM with a final gear ratio of 2.42.

The fact is that the Z06 has too much drag to overcome to reach 200 MPH vs the much heavier(4145 lbs) and much larger CTS-V with its weaker 640 HP/630 Lb-ft of torque.

Putting in a 2.85 rear gear won't hardly change anything in the Z06, but the 2.85 does help the heavy CTS-V accelerate, because of the greater torque multiplication in the lower gears.

But I thought the CD was relatively low on the z06? Can't believe you didn't mention that here . . .

That can't be the reason the caddy is faster - I thought it was because the z06 was somehow defective?...

4th gear is the 1.00 gear.

Tadge said it was low, not me...I believe he said it was .35, the same as a 205 MPH ZR1 and only .01 higher than a C6 Z06 that can hit 198 with 145 less horsepower.

You tell me, how can a car with a low .35 Cd and a smaller frontal area(than a CTS-V) be slower than a CTS-V, unless it is "somehow defective"(using your definition of the Z06)?

What has the 1:1 4th gear in the M7 got to do with top speed of a car with an A8?

The A8 that is used in the CTS-V, with the 2.85:1 rear gear, has a 1:1 in 6th gear, not in 4th gear, and that is also true of the C7 Stingray and C7 Z06 with an A8.

to actually make use of having a 2.85 rear ratio on the z06 you would have to ring it out in 6th gear, not sure what the RPM would have to be however to reach 200mph in 6th with the 2.85, can someone do the math?
