Track car build thread
I will continue to update this thread to show the weight reduction process.
As I stated from the start, I bought this car for the track and this will be its main purpose so what we are doing will not be for everyone. Our goal is 272 pounds off the car. That will put the car at 3200 pounds. Stock with 3/8ths of gas, the car weighed at 3472. 1lz with the Z07 package.

You can find CF seats around 9 pounds, add mounting bracket 8 pounds and seats alone get you almost 80 pounds off for both seats.
Battery is another easy 20+ pounds
good luck, keep us posted
BTW, anyone know is torque tube in steel can be swapped out for a alu version from Z6 ZR1 ?
Who cares about that stupid cyl deactivation and vibrations

Good goal. I am sure you will attain it. Those seats are really heavy. Lots of wt to be lost in the factory exhaust. Headers, less cats, and lighter mufflers. I wish we still had the c5z titanium in the back. That was a light wt setup.

Subscribed - I am thinking that I should loose about 30 lbs myself, but if I can shed several hundred this way I won't have to give up pizza - what a great thread! Now where is that number for Fernando's Pizza?

I believe they are over travel safety limit switches to protect the seat motor in case you try and run the seat all the way back with the upright laid back. I believe it shuts off the power to the seat retract motor.

Possibly related to the seat position that may relate to the SRS Supplemental Restraint System/airbags. There are arming and discretionary sensors used to deploy the airbags, but these may have some reasoning/purpose as well. ?? Position may relate to the milliseconds difference in a person's head moving forward on impact, then this could change the pulse of the deployment of the airbag. With a car that can easily reach 150MPH there would certainly be a difference in pulse timing of a barrier impact. Usual, minimal deployment is at 11 mph barrier crash within 30 degrees of centerline on front impact airbags.

Day 1 done.
So far here is the following:
Waterfall carpet 7.9 pounds
Plastic panels (top sides and rears) 16.1 pounds
Misc parts (clips, plastic tops on bolts, foam etc.) 2 lbs
Washer fluid 5.9 pounds
Rear carpet/ plastic cover 9.5 lbs
Passenger seat 56 pounds
Total so far 97.4 lbs.
There is one problem. The side airbags seem to be on one control unit. By removing the passenger seat it obviously cannot detect the airbag therefore shows a service warning on the dash. According to the manual, if not serviced, the car will go into limp mode! There has to be a way around this? For now, the seats are back in. We will take out the passenger seat again and see how long we can go before the car goes into limp mode. Hopefully we can get one track session in so we would just need to connect it back then disconnect before every session.
The other issue is so far, all the weight seems to be from the rear and I have to admit, it looks rather ugly lol. More to come. 18 inch rims come mid week which will shed a lot of weight and we will remove some more unnecessary pieces tomorrow.
Pic is the rear with most everything removed. Speakers and some brackets will be removed also.
