Default Sway me one way or the other...7 or 8 speed

About to pull the trigger today or tomorrow and just can't make myself 100% sure ...

Doing the z07 package for sure, car might see a track day at hallet, other than that, just the normal fun stuff.. The only thing that I was thinking in regards to the Auto is it might open up more options when it comes time to sell it..

Your thoughts?!?
TIA

Nick

M7 all day! Mechanical differences aside, this is a car you will drive for pleasure and the manual will bring more of that especially on a Z07!

Nic,

By looking at your avatar, and if you're like me...then go with the A8.

I believe you're a drag racer; perhaps you swim in the same pond I do, so NO need to tell you why I went with the A8.

Thanks,
Carlos

If I lived in a big city and did a lot of "stop and go" driving then the auto makes sense. I live in the super boonies and almost never have that kind of situation and I like doing something while driving so I like the stick.

The only advantage to the manual is the fun factor, the price, and the availabilty. Other than that, I think you should go with the A8. You may regret it the first time you hit traffic with a manual.

Also, there probably is no resale value on the GGT.

I love how people mention traffic all the time. Who takes their Z07 out into heavy traffic all the time? Not to mention people have been driving manuals in traffic just fine for a century.

Manual cars are disappearing. Porsche 911 997 manual used car prices are appreciating since they got rid of the manual. M7 will have higher resale value down the line.

M7 by far the best option.

M7 all the way. I never considered the auto. Although they will be slightly faster and easier to launch i fail to see the how the experience of doing nothing can be seen as fun or exciting. Id rather have to work for a 11.0 than stab 1 pedal for a 10.7... id rather work a clutch and shifter coming into a turn than fipping a paddle.

I buy and appreciate autos for my DD's, but when it comes to a toy there are few things better than ripping through gears or a 4 gear downshift with rev match.

Ha! thats funny, the red car I had before I changed it to an auto had one of spec's first dual clutch kits, ZERO transition from pedal to release point, but I still enjoyed traffic, the 80mph burnouts going down the freeway were worth the sacrifice

Probably no drag racing left in me, weekends and maybe some twisties are my goal

I went to a dealer and drove a manual Stingray back to back with an auto Stingray. The auto felt a little quicker, especially in traffic. But the manual was just more involving and fun. I got an M7 Z06.

The only question OP has to ask himself is "Do you get any warm fuzzy feelings or satisfaction from perfectly executing your own shifts/rev-matching/heal-toe/etc" ? If a truthful yes, then go with the M7. If you are realistic with yourself and the answer is no, then by all means go with the A8, it will do everything better than the M7, period.

I will always prefer the manual route for the same reasons I usually enjoy challenging tasks; they keep me more engaged, and its more satisfying when I win. There's a certain sense of personal satisfaction from being able to control more of the vehicles functions directly. Some people don't share this enthusiasm, which is why there are 2 transmission options

Hate to burst your bubble, but there wasn't much traffic and few cars a century ago.

I went with the manual. For me it's more fun and that's the reason i'm getting the car to begin with. You're looking at around 3 grand, with ggt added, for something that takes part of the driving experience away. At least that's my opinion. That said i'd pay 3 grand more for the manual if I had to. If it was the only vehicle I had I might feel differently.

For me it is the M7. Have only driven mine 809 miles but I love the way it shifts. Did museum delivery January 5th. Drove back roads from Bowling Green to Cookeville TN then I 40 to 129. Ran the Tail of the Dragon then 74 to I 26 then onto I 81 up to Winchester VA. Loaded it into a trailer for a ride through the salt home. Has been hibernating ever since. There was a variety of driving in that trip and I never once wished I had the A8.
The choice is up to you, however I wouldn't hesitate to buy another M7. But this is purely my opinion.

If you're looking to drag-race or road-race consistently, A8.
If it's just a weekend/fun car, M7.

At the end of the day, you're still getting a C7 Z06

Thanks for the input, heading to the stealership to place it - I don't need any help with clutch actuation and I'm a pretty good gear-rower, so M7 it is

The phrase "for a century" means starting a century ago and up until current times. Not just a century ago. Why would you think someone is talking about exactly a century ago? Is English your native language?
