Default Fasterproms Thermal Reduction Plates for reducing heat soak- Lots of info inside

Fasterproms is now offering Thermal Reduction Plates to reduce heat transfer caused by the supercharger sitting directly on the cylinder heads. The supercharger being in direct contact with the cylinder heads reduces thermal efficiency and heat is always the demon in positive displacement supercharged vehicles. On LSA vehicles we have seen numerous times over 30RWHP gain on a cool supercharger vs fully hot operating temp. With the Thermal reduction plates the blower will operate significantly cooler and make it perform as if were in cooler weather consistently. The air entering the combustion chamber will average lower temps and thus be more dense.

Here are a few points about the product and the shortcomings about the stock design:

- Limits transfer of heat directly to the supercharger
-the cylinder head is as hot as the coolant temp and oil temp (180-220)
-the lower part of the supercharger is typically 170-220 degrees
-the supercharger CASE is always hotter than the IAT will show
-Higher Case temps create higher IATs, Higher IATs reduce spark advance and lead to spark Knock

These Thermal Reduction Plates are installed between the cylinder heads and supercharger to diminish heat transfer between the two. We have seen temperature reduction of the supercharger measured with an infrared gun between 30-50 degrees. Typically with supporting cooling mods the blower will operate at a lower temperature and cool down more rapidly. Other modifications may lower the air temperature in one location but they do not address the issue of the supercharger temperature/heat soak. The thermal reduction plates are the only true modification that will diminish supercharger case heat soak to the supercharger from the cylinder heads. This makes the heat exchanging system of the vehicle more effective. When complimented with our 1.5 Gal expansion tank the two give you even more control over the supercharger coolant temps as well as supercharger case temps. In summary there is less heat and we are gaining efficiency.

We have installed the plates on many cars and have done extensive testing.

On the LT4 Z06 supercharger we have recorded 140-190 degrees operating temperature (30x+ of measurements). After installing our Thermal Reduction Plates we have recorded temperatures of 110-140 degrees. The LT4 has the worst heat soak of any vehicle tested to date inpart to the lower mounting stature and it is in the direct path of the radiator fan receiving hot air off of the radiator.

The ZR1 temperatures stock we recorded were 120-185 deg F and were reduced 25-40 deg F

The CTS-V temperatures recorded were 125-185 Deg F and they were reduced 25-50 deg F.

Smokey Yuniks rule of thumb was there is a 1% gain of power for every 10 degrees of lower air temperatures. You are therefore looking at a 3-5% power gain. If you are making around 570rwhp that is a 18-28.5 rwhp gain.

With the purchase of every set of plates, we include a Mylar Valley Cover Insulator for free. While the valley cover does not directly contact the supercharger, it does radiate heat up into the rotorpack. The insulator will further reduce the heat transfer from this area and will reduce the temperature by around 100 degrees. We have recorded a 180 degree stock to 80 degree insulated difference on the LSA blower.

Currently we are offering 3 GM based plates that will work with many different platforms.

$435.00 + Shipping- includes belt, bolts and spacers if necessary
2015 + Corvette Z06 (serpentine belt included)

$375.00 + Shipping- belt not included (requires different serpentine belt but will vary with pulley configuration)
2009 + Corvette ZR1
2009 + Cadillac CTSV
2009 + CTSV w/ ZL1 lid
2012 + Camaro ZL1

We will have installation instructions included with each purchase of the plates.

Other modifications that we recommend to further help with the heat reduction

-remove the hood weatherstrip
-install Fasterprom’s Expansion Tank- this increases supercharger coolant capacity
-Tuning for lower fan temperatures
-lower temp thermostat
-Lower % coolant/ Higher % water Ex: 90% water to 10% dexcool, Ideally 99% and 1% water wetter in the warmer months and not where freezing is a possibility.

Remove hood weather stripping?is the install difficult for the cooling plates?

Quick question:

Other tuners have mentioned that the IAT both pre and post S/C are decent in the Z06; it appears that the ECU pulls timing when the engine oil and water temps get high.

Will these spacers lower engine oil and/or water temps?

Is the warranty voided immediately these are installed?

TIA,

Bish

Are there any issues with hood clearance with the supercharger sitting higher ?

Great question as other threads related to the ECU pulling timing was related to high oil temps and not IATs.

Could you show a pic of the mylar valley cover insulator, does the blower need to be removed for installation?

Jeremy, would these plates work on a LT1 Stingray?? I like the idea of the increased RUNNER length.

If after doing this you loaded a cylinder full of liquid (a problem a leaky SC I've seen before) and blow the motor. Your warranty would be in big trouble!
What type of liquid are you referring to?

So these are temp reductions in the SC. What kind of reductions do you see in the oil temps? DN

Another area that you guys should look at is a larger Radiator and larger oil coolers along with extra capacity.

I like this product, I can see the value,
But I'm wondering, how much higher is the SC raised?
And how close to the hood, any clearance issues?
