Not particularly anxious to pick up my new Z06
I live in the Upper Peninsula (UP) of Michigan which is about 30% of Michigan’s land mass but we only have a population of about 300,000 people. It is sparsely populated, mostly dense forest land. It is extremely cold (avg. temp Feb 2015 was not quite 1 degree F) and we get 15 to 30 feet of snow where I live. The summers are quite nice but short. You have to have a winter vehicle. I have a 2014 4WD Silverado crew cab with dedicated snow tires on it for the winter which starts in mid-November and goes until early April under the best of circumstances. It is actually my family car.
I never expected to get another Z06. I purchased my 2001 Z06 and my 2007 Z06 from Detroit areas dealers, which are 8 hours away from my home, so it was a hassle to buy and pick them up, and my 2007 is in mint condition. There are so few Corvettes sold in the UP, that no dealer that I am aware of has received a Z06 allocation, certainly not on a new model. When my local dealer salesman called and said they had an allocation for a 2015 Z06, would I like to order it? I was shocked by the call.
I went in and spec’d one out and thought about it for a week and ordered it on 1/25 (VY, 2LZ with navigation, black wheels and battery protection). The price is $4,300 under MSRP. TPW is 3/16, which means I would be lucky to get it by the end of March.
If I got it then, it would have to sit at the dealership until my driveway and the roads were clear of snow.
My wife and I leave on a scuba diving trip to the Philippines on March 31, returning on April 23. I hope that on April 24th, the roads will be clear of snow and the car will be at the dealership ready for pickup. If it isn’t I will be as anxious as some of the guys on this forum. Below is a picture I took of my house this last week after the snow was cleaned off my roofs. On level ground the snow right now is teat high on me.

Congratulations on your soon to be new Z06!
I would be so anxious while I was away knowning my car is sitting, waiting for me.
But, that is some serious amount of snow.
Have fun on your trip!

Know your pain bro... I live in Niagara between Lake Erie and Lake Ontario and we have been hit hard. Luckily, my TPW is 6Apr which means a delivery (Quebec dealer) in late Apr and maybe even early May before I drive it home 900km.

Simple solution. Have it delivered to me here in FL and I'll keep it warm for you and baby it through the break in period. Then come pick it up when it's warmer in northern MI ready to drive it like you stole it.

I used to have distant relatives that lived in Ishpeming. Always thought they were crazy - winter sux bad enough here in SE MI.
But, the UP is beautiful and a great place to get away from all the humanity down here. Basically, you're tradin' a**holes for mosquitoes.
Now...you wouldn't have any nefarious plans with that new Z06 on the Seney stretch of M28 would you?
Best of luck with your new Z!

Wow, our TPW is 3/2 and I was worried about the 5" we got last night. Supposed to be in 50's next weekend though. Hope you enjoy your new Z.

Have you ever visited here? If you had you might understand why people love this area. Before I came here I was a tax attorney in NYC and got my graduate degrees in Chicago, spending 12 years in those two places. I don't need to lock my doors on my house or cars here. It is a very relaxed lifestyle.
You don't hear people moaning about the snow here like they do in the south and Northeast where you live. We love snow here, we play in it. You need to be hardy and independent to live here. It isn't for most people, thank god for that.

Come on man, what kind of comment is that. I can't believe your fat. I can't believe your short. I can't believe your uncordinated. I can't believe your poor...You probably fall under one of those comments, how does it feel?

I didn't mean for it to be personal but I apologize for that. Been to Grand Rapids in January of 2003 (drove). Watched people from Ohio through Michigan wiping out all over the place along the way during a light snow event.
I guess it's just me but the idea of constantly cold and constantly having to wear that much clothing...along with the constant mess of it all just begs the question. Why? Cause it's beautiful? There are nice people in the warmer parts of the country LOL
I live in SE PA. I get enough of it here. If I ever make a physical move it most certainly will be south, not north. I do understand about the people and way of life though.
No malice intended.

Colleges are everywhere, and college professors can have their summers off and a lot of flexibility during the academic year, so I chose a beautiful spot where there was a college and became a college professor teaching tax courses. My lifestyle here in the boondocks is like the difference between night and day from NYC. If I had stayed in NYC, doing what I did, I would probably have had a heart attack and died years ago. Anyway I left all of that behind when I retired 8 years ago.
