Street Race Promoters Charged With Murder
Street racing is not only illegal but with the performance mods available today for daily drivers, and for anyone with the money have reached insanity levels where 2000 HP cars are dueling in residential neighborhoods. Promotors of illegal street racing here at "C7 ZO6 Discussion" at CF.Com have no business being ignored for anything less than what they are doing under the pretense of comparing the C7 ZO6 to any other competitor, stock or otherwise!
https://autos.yahoo.com/news/famed-s...184741858.html
Being as street racing in this section has not been equally condemned as it has other CF.Com sections in the past, I hope the mods here will let this thread live its own life here rather than move it to a different section
No one needs the bad name associated with street racing and this includes all of CF.Com members.
I know there are many members here who rightly condemn street racing for what it is, but there are some who have gone as far as to have websites linked in threads here who promote such activities.
I am all about individual freedom, but street racing needs to remain illegal and never glorified that results in the promotors of said activities not being considered responsible for accidents that kill because of immature persons who think it will never be their fault, or the laws being meant for them.

man where we all drag race its never like that. If we wipe out we are taking ourselves out and no spectators. they should have never had people so close to the cars at the start. If i go to a street race to watch illegal stuff i feel im just as much at fault as the guys driving.

Jackasses, for sure. I'll tell you since the first Fast and Furious movie every A Hole with a few bucks to put in his Car is now a street racing "hero". I don't see much glorification of street racing here. A few "message board heroes" have bragged about high triple figure runs. But, thankfully/hopefully the majority of members keep it to the track.

Crazy. There should never be spectators standing so close of the race lanes. If you want to live the underground thug LA life, this is what happens.

I am with the original poster....keep the street racing off the road and at the track only. The guys on here that feel they have to have a rolling start and then race another car are putting everyone at risk including the family that is in a car driving down the road and have no knowledge what is coming up on them.
The sponsors of the forum IMO liable as well since they are sponsoring CF and not asking that the site not allow or give the appearance of blessing street racing.
It just doesn't make any sense.......sorry to take this stand but after watching the fifth street race of a Z06 on the site.....someone else is going to get hurt......keep it on the track!

Unless you have complete control of the street and a buffer zone around it, which generally isn't the case, others can get hurt. Racetracks have known and controlled ingress points, city streets are not so constructed.

Joe has a forum. He allows folks that make titanium lug nuts to advertise parts on his forum. A lug nut end up being used on a street car. The street car ended up being raced on the road. Mike, who likes to go watch races always sits close to the action, waving flags and such. Mike gets hit by the guy driving the street car with titanium lug nuts.
Is it Joe's fault?
What if Joe had a forum that advertised car fresheners. The car freshener was sold to the guy with titanium lug nuts. Is it still Joe's fault?

Bring back the Drag Racing tracks that closed 50 years ago like US30 dragstrip, so on the weekends, guys can show off their cars in the appropriate setting.

Nowadays we pretend no one speeds when everyone speeds. Even posted speeds are deadly.
1. People need a spine.
2. Judge every situation based on all the details. You don't have all the details, don't blame everyone connected to the 200th degree.
3. Don't pretend street racing can be whipped out. Understand it will always be there but control it the right way. Autobahn solution, subsidized track solution, or allow racing on deserted side roads.

4 dragstrips and 1 road course closed here in Texas the past 3 years, can't be good for keeping racing off the streets.

I agree with Jim that what is missing are legitimate drag strips because so many have closed.
Increased insurance costs/liability concerns, greatly increased real estate taxes, land value exceeding its use as a track, noise restrictions, and owners aging with no family interested in running the business have all contributed to the demise of a lot of local tracks and I expect the allure of street racing has reduced demand/revenue somewhat.
A few months ago I had the TV providing background noise while I was putting together some research protocols on the laptop and TCM was running one of the short 1950s "filler" films about police departments and city officials working together to foster growth of tracks to cut down on kids getting killed drag racing. In today's environment the approach is going to be enforcement, punitive fines, and hand wringing over accidents instead of this wise approach of the 1950s.

If Joe organized an illegal event he then would be a responsible party.
Not sure where you are attempting to go with this.

hence all the roll freeway racing there. street racing is part of american history for hot rod guys. You will never be able to stop it period. NO rules or laws. More people die from drunk driving every year than street racing yet the street racing thing is looked down more upon that.
10076 DUI DEATHS IN 2013 street racing deaths im sure were not even in the 100 range

Ive been in the street racing thing for many years now up here in northern california. And no i dont mean the friday night and saturday night stupid people thing i mean the non weekend thing that gets told 2 hours before its going down. There are idiots who street race (typical friday/saturday nighters) or guys like me that come out when the good cars are out and people that know how to race. LIke i said if i get wiped out in a street race and die its something that i liked to do. even as a spectator. I know the risks going out to watch a drag race and if im watching 2 things
1) dont have my car behind the 2 guys warming up their slicks cause i hate rock chips
and
2) never stand in front of the cars during the race
that being said 335 30 18s are ready for my z07 for some action and i got my kid started at a early age. Cars kept me out of trouble where I grew up in san francisco and if i can keep my kid out of trouble and mind thinking and not on the dam cell phone or computer im for that Ill be dammed to lose him to meth or these other drugs this new generation is trying out. Im not telling my kids to street race but im trying to keep their mind going. Sorry for the rant I just think street racing is given a bad rep becuase of idiots like what happened show.
THERE IS NO COMPARISON how a street race feels vs how a track drag strip feels. Its a different rush and for those that actaully have done it you know what im talking about.
