Mojave Magnum 1.5 mile Shootout
Just completed the first day of the 1.5 mile runs (standing start) at the Mojave Magnum Shootout in Mojave CA. They recorded both the 1 and 1.5 miles distance on each run. Elevation 2800' Altimeter 29.91, Temps mid 60's to mid 70's.
Results:
C7 Z06 Aero 1 M7 cars -188.2 and 188.4 (two different cars)
My car did 177.4 at the mile and 188.2 at the 1.5 mile distance
C7 Z06 Aero 3 M7 car - 178
Dodge Hellcat - 185 (After I left he made one more run and hit 190 mph--See post #63)
More runs tomorrow Will be about 5 degrees warmer tomorrow

Congrats on your runs! I guess 185 is not the top speed of the aero 1 cars How was the acceleration up top? Any PDR? Interested in info on the Hellcat, auto or manual? 185 was the mile or 1.5 mile speed?

Nice results, please list if these cars are stock and if so what did the stage 3 aero run in the mile. Also state if manual or auto if you did not already. Thank you.

On the barometer, one of the things I found when I moved to elevation is that most barometric readings are "corrected to sea level. As an example right now my weather display indicates a pressure of 29.89 but that is "corrected". The uncorrected data available on my computer for that weather station is 24.619. It is likely that the true pressure at Mohave was in the 26.5-27 range.

Safety Car
Nice to see 4 other C7 Z06 at the Mojave Magnum.
I was the only one to run the Z07 pack with the rear spoiler raised to max, large winglets up front, and car fully lowered. I believe I was running the most downforce. Clocked a 183.3 mph.
Once my videos are overlaid with OBDII and GPS data I'll start a thread.

Decent results, Ken. Faster than my c6 Z06 in the mile but slower in the 1 1/2 mile. The aero 2&3 package really whacks the speed above 175.

Magnum Recap
Sorry I could not get to the Corvette Forum yesterday. The day started at 4:30 am and I did not get through racing until 5:30 pm. Then the 4 hour drive back to Vegas.
The entire weekend at the Mojave Magnum was a blast. Going fast and not having to worry about tickets or cars pulling out in front of you is a ton of fun 120 neat cars and motorcycles each day.
As to the questions about Saturday's info, all of the mph I gave was for the 1.5 distance, except for the my data. I provided the 1 mile just as a reference to see the difference between the mile and the 1.5 mile.
All C7 Z06's were stock with no tunes. There were two Aero 1 M7 Corvettes, and two Aero 3 M7 Corvettes. There was an Aero 3 A8 Corvette there on Saturday only and he had removed the wicker bills. Did not get much info out of him other than he was slower than the Aero 1 cars. Wish I could have got more info.
I made 3 passes on Saturday and 6 on Sunday.
Sunday's weather, and therefore performance, was much different than Saturday's: mild crosswinds and headwinds Temperatures were 10 degrees hotter in the mid 80's. The DA was pushing 5000'
C7 Z06 performance:
My best pass was 175.6 mph in the mile and 182.9 in the 1.5 mile.
The other Aero 1 M7 Corvette, for some reason, was a couple of mph slower.
The Aero 3 Z06's were again slow by 9 to 11 mph with the full rear spoiler in place. One of the Areo 3 Corvettes (see above post) removed the wicker bills and the clear center section. By doing so he was only a couple of mph slower than I was. We chatted and concluded that the more aggressive front splitter and the tall winglets probably slowed him a couple of mph.
The other Aero 3 Corvette ran with the full rear spoiler in place initially and he was 11 mph slower. Then he lowered the clear center section and picked up a couple of mph.
The Hellcat did not return. Additionally I do not know if it was a manual or auto.
There was also a new Z28 Camaro there, drive by R. J. Gottieb, of Big Red Camaro fame. Google Big Red Camaro and see who and what his 69 Camaro is all about. The interesting thing was his pass. Lots of aero on the new Z28, but it has that big LS7 engine. The car only reached 163 mph in the 1.5 miles.
Our Corvette Club (www.vegasvettes.com) had four C6's exceed 200 mph.
2 ZR1's, 1 Z06 and 1 Callaway. All had various engine mods.
One of the ZR1's experimented with the rear spoiler. He had installed a more aggressive aftermarket carbon fiber Katech spoiler. He removed the spoiler. First pass on Saturday: 207.9 mph. Then he reinstalled the spoiler: 200.5 mph. He also said that the car was noticeable more stable at high speed with the spoiler on. Not a big surprise.
More info from my passes (yes I will get PDR video up later)
1. Sitting at final grid with the AC on, the engine/oil temps never got above 192. I turned the AC off for each run. After each pass ( 40 seconds of full throttle and 20 seconds of slow down to exit the runway produced an engine temperature of 203. By the time I reached the staging grid area (about a 1 mile drive at 50 mph) the temperatures cooled back down to 192.
2. Braking from high speed: I noticed with a light application of the brake pedal the car produced a slight pulsing. With medium to hard application the pulsing went away. Not sure what causes that. The smart brake pad/rotor guys can chime in with their thoughts. Was not really a problem, just something I noticed.
3. Stability and ride at high speed and cross winds was great.
4. On Sunday when the temperatures got into the mid 80's, I felt the engine struggled a bit in fifth gear above 6000 rpms. Maybe it was starting to pull timing??? Never felt that way on Saturday.
5. On one pass I found out that it is easy, when you are trying to shift quickly, that a 4th to 7th is possible. Not great acceleration there
6. I used 3 different driving modes. The runway was asphalt and it is a little courser than typical asphalt streets. Initially I used the Track-Race mode. As I rolled forward on the start and applied full throttle the tires started to spin and then I got significant wheel hop. Backed out of it and then applied full throttle again. That was on my 188.2 mph pass on Saturday. Probably would have hit 190 if I could have started better. All of the other runs, with the exception of the last pass on Sunday, were done in the Sport mode (Not Track-Sport 1 or Track - Sport 2) Had better control of tire slippage. I tried Track - Sport 2 on the last pass on Sunday and did not notice any difference than the Sport mode.
7. Stock C6 ZR1 vs. C7 Z06 comparison: I have participated in several Mojave Shootouts and watched many Corvettes make passes down the runway. When I compare the numbers, I conclude that the stock C7 Z06 is slightly faster by 2 to 3 mph than a stock ZR1. The LT4 engine is more powerful than the LS9 and it can overcome some of the aero drag that the C7 Z06 has--But not by much.
8. Can the Aero 1 Z06's hit 200? Probably. At 200 mph you are covering almost 300 feet per second. You need a lot of real estate at those speeds. (Please don't try it on the public highways) The car was still accelerating at the 1.5 mark.
Bottom line. Yep--the Aero 3's are slower. But they are made for high speed road racing, not 1.5 mile shootouts. You put an Aero 1 and an Aero 2 Z06 (taking the Z07 brakes out of the equation) on the course together at Laguna Seca and guess who's faster
