Who is real king?? Z06 or ZR1
Guys, I have the new Z06. My friend for the past year wants one too, he doesn't really want to drop over a 100k on the new Z06. But he wants a Vett. He has been following my adventures in C7 lala land. He has researched and found an 09 Zr1 for 70k , under 20k miles 1 owner. He says this foots the bill and saves 30k. In doing all his research he has called all the Vett performance shops and tuners and they are telling him that the Zr1 is the real king??
I know the new C7 is much nicer on inside and IMO they are both beautiful in their own right on outside!
Also know this has been beaten to death about smaller root blower on new Z Bla bla bla
Now that 8000 plus new Z06's are out there...
Who is the real king!!!!
Here is big one.. WHY is either better than other??? Obviously performance wise!!
Please I need as much info as you guys have the patience to write!
Thanks!!

My 2010 ZR1 feels like a track car you can drive on the street. My 2015 Z06 feels like a street car you can drive on the track. Power wise they are both awsum. I do prefer the Z06 because of it's other technical advances. Changing driving modes is easier with more features. I love how the HUD also tells you what gear my 7M is in. I also like the fact that I can now take my roof panel out when I want. I still plan on keeping both. My only suggestion on getting a C6 ZR1 is to get at least a 2010 because that's when they started to include launch control.

Different cars in different ways. Neither owns the other as each does different things better.
Overall the Z06 is the better car IMO, but that's not to say it's better. It all boils down to your personal preference and opinion. You're going to get different answers from different people.

Both awesome cars. I think the answer to which is better would depend which one you own.
It probably comes down to styling though. If he likes 6th generation styling or 7th gen styling best? And if the removable top of the C7Z has any useful value to him.

Well said. Curious though, what does the ZR1 do better than the Z06?

As similar as they look "on paper", they are different cars, with different driving characteristics. You - or I guess your buddy - needs to ask himself, "king of what"?
- The A8 Z is quicker in the 1/4 mile.
- The ZR1 is faster top end.
- Only 4400 ZR1s made total, if that even matters.
- The LS9 has proven itself to be overbuilt and bullet-proof, with a lot of headroom for modding for power. We're still on the front end of learning about the LT4.
- The interior of the new Z is better.
- The new Z would make for a nicer DD.
- Looks are subjective - I like 'em both, but some have strong preferences one way or the other.
And they drive, handle, and feel different. When waiting to get my new Z, I was actually a little worried it would be too much like my ZR1 - i.e. I'd have two of the same thing. Turns out I was worried for nothing. I enjoy having them both as they have two different personalities, if you will, and each a blast to drive.
There are some pretty good deals on ZR1s to be found if your friend is patient. But either car is a blast.
The which is better debate for these two cars amuses me. Too many subjective variables for there to be a one-size-fits-all answer to that. Get what you want, and enjoy what you have.

Styling, comfort, and things like that are totally subjective too.
The C7Z has better acceleration from a dig, is better handling, more refined, and nicer inside (IMO).
Oddly enough, I find the new Z less comfortable inside, but again, stuff like that is all subjective.

When a high performance minded person like me hears what car is King that really means what car is faster, quicker, etc.
From a performance standpoint the A8 automatic C7 Z06 is the King on the Drag strip the C7 M7 drivers need way more seat time to see exactly where it stands next to the C6 Zr1, but I think with all the early nanny controls we are seeing inhibiting the launch of the M7 car that it will be hard pressed to be consistently faster than a C6 ZR1 in a drag race.
Road race track we would need way more data on different tracks to see what cars yield faster times and what exactly is going to happen to the heat issues (especially in the dead of the summer coming soon) that the C7 Z06 is going to be dealing with.
Now when it comes to bragging rights of what corvette is the FASTEST that C6 ZR1 is Still the King with its top speed of 205 mph compared to the C7 Z06 that can't break 200 mph. I know, I know, this is meaningless to a lot of owners and enthusiasts, but there are a quite a few owners who are into that Bragging rights of having the FASTEST Production corvette of all time.
I love drag racing and if I had my pick its the C7 Z06 with A8 trans. all day long that I would choose, as its a consistent bone stock 10 second performer on the track, and its exterior looks (and its new and improved interior) blows away the C6 ZR1, which is starting to look out dated to me. Currently the C7 Z06 A8 is the quickest vette of all time and the fastest ever on the drag strip BUT the C6 ZR1 is still the Fastest production vette of all time with its top speed of 205 mph.
Your friend needs to weigh all the pros and cons and decide what is important to him, what his intended use of the car is going to be, and the fact that you can get a MINT C6 ZR1 for many thousands of dollars less makes this a tuff decision for many folks.

Those guys should hang their heads in shame then. Cause there's only One corvette that can take the title of fastest of all time. And it happened in 1988.
The 900hp helps.

as a reason to buy a Corvette. I like the gauges and dash in the ZR1.
The going through the long menu's on the 2015 steering wheel buttons
is already old and sorta sucks. The better handing on the 2015 is the main difference. Then the looks of the new Z06 is pretty hot.

Great info on these 2 cars.
Can someone of knowledge answer this? Is it "just" the simple fact the new Z06 has a smaller blower, which falls of at high end and makes more heat??
I never heard of heatsoak issues with Zr1?
So loss of power and heat ?? Resulting from a smaller blower? Or is it much more complicated then that???
For clarification I have a 15 Z06 love her!!
Just wondering what Im up against as he is certainly almost as good a diver as me! Im sure he would say the same thing! Lol.
Thanks

The shops don't quite have their arms around the C7Z yet so they will probably say ZR1 for now. But more importantly, it sounds like money is an important issue and if it is, he should get the ZR1.
