A "dangerous" toy
I have now seen video's of a few accidents, no surprise.
I think we, as a community, have an obligation to discourage reckless behavior. I don't care what marque or marque's you own, we all should know our limitations and not endanger others.
I am fearful that we may begin to hear of Z06 accidents and casualties because so few who buy the car have ever experienced so much hp/torque. I bought a Porsche Turbo when they first came out. It had only 315 hp, yet it casused numerous fatalaties, because buyers did not understand (signficant) turbo lag.
With 650hp/650 ft lbs of torque, this car has more power than most many professionally driven race cars.
Be honest, how often has somethng "clicked" when a good looking woman is watching, a friend "wonders" how fast "it" will go, or you hear the sound of a revving engine? We all have "moments" when the adult gives way to the "child". However, we are no longer playing with a "toy". We need to discipline ourselves.
I hope all of us take the time to get to know the car on a race track or other safe venue and do not feel a need to impress or compete before understanding what rests below our right foot. This is a potentially lethal weapon. I am hopeful, most here are mature enough to respect their life as well as others. However, for whomever may read this that still believes he/she is immortal, please tempt the God's, away from my children and the rest of us. Best

When random people stop to discuss my car, one of the comments I make is "I can't believe us normal people are trusted with such an extreme vehicle." I'm joking a bit when I say it, but the truth is as you said. If you are not on top of it, this car can bite you in 2 seconds!

guns don't kill people. people kill people.
user error sucks. being able to afford something is not the same as being qualified to use it.

Simple!?
Use the TC, Active Handling, and don't speed too much. Its worked for me and that stuff had its inception in my model Vette, but, they changed it a lot. It saved me many times while the Vipers were the highest to insure with half of them getting wrecked. The Vipers were bad news back then, and they didn't even have ABS!

I guess I have more self control.
I survived riding a Susuki GS1100 back in the day. 110HP or something on a light bike.
I think I opened the throttle 100% once, and saw God. I didn't do stupid stuff on it, though I know a lot of people did, and do, do stupid stuff on crotch rockets, and in other vehicles.
I also collect machineguns, real ones that fire, and don't do stupid stuff with those, either.

I have to agree. I don't let people casually drive this car. First off there are practical issues with parking, curbs etc.
Secondly if you don't understand how fast the car is you can get into trouble easily. Either by losing control or simply getting going too fast too quickly.
That being said if you aren't an idiot the car is very easy to drive. Much more livable than my previous C6 Z06 that didn't have magnetic ride. Touring mode with the auto in traffic does drive like a caddy.

It is funny how little of that exists and even those who think they "know" use up an eraser on a pencil before the lead. Best

Most Corvettes don't run into problems because they are owned by older guys that crap their pants when they blip the throttle. Its the young guys in the Camaros and Mustangs that you really have to worry about. The facts are that any car in the hands of an idiot is a dangerous weapon.

Educate yourself and learn how to drive. Stop blaming things on "the car" or "the gun" or whatever else it is that people these days make excuses for.
No one has any accountability anymore; it's always someone else's fault.

Man Facts you might not know!
Males testosterone maxes out at ~18 (woman ~36).
The human brain frontal cortex reasoning center in males isn't fully developed until he is ~25.
If you run into one of these cats in the wrong way make a quick right!

It's hard to discourage stupid.

People have been mashing the go pedal since the first two cars were built. Complaining about it, on a Corvette enthusiast site, where a lot are posts are devoted to more power and speed ain't changing nothing. Just be glad its not you.
edit for.. personally I feel safer in a car that goes fast/stops fast and goes where I point it a lot more than I do my wife's' Malibu.

My cars have, in descending order of horsepower, 675, 650, 510, 505, and 502. I have not been pulled over since 1985. I have not had a ticket nor an accident since then either. You can get yourself in trouble with a 350 Impala too.
Nobody needs to regulate horsepower. Just make insurance prohibitively expensive for people that have accidents or serious infractions. They'll stay home and I can drive my powerful cars without worrying they'll hit me. Let the market do its thing.
That said, I don't want someone failing the Darwin award because the crossed the centerline when I happened to be there. But power rarely kills - speed does. And you don't need power to go fast.
