Default Dang! C7 Z06 puts the spank on some exotic cars and track heroes at COTA

For those who still lament the street race misadventures of the new Z06, see where the car was really meant to shine: Track Days.

It was the first day ever at Circuit of the Americas in Austin for myself and my new C7 Z06. But even with street tires, the Z still manages to take down some heavy hitters.

Can't wait to see what it can do with R compound tires, track alignment, and a little more seat time!

That was fun. Have to admit when the McClaren spoiler altered during its hard braking cycle, that was pretty trick. Loved the Porsche beat down in the straight.

Wow. Great ride-along. Thanks for the well-edited fun.

Did you go straight from Sport Mode to Track Mode:Race?

How did that feel? Sport pulls a lot of power when those squiggles come up. Track Mode:Sport1 is a huge difference. I haven't tried Race yet.

BTW, just realized that your Vette is yellow! That's why it is so fast ;-)

Don't want to start any fight there but this is a well known fact that yellows are the fastest...

Means little given not knowing other drivers skill level and what they were doing at the time. Not doubting your abilitiy or Z06 potential, just saying no way to make a judgement in my view. Best

At least many respect your skills & car by giving you point-bys.... excellent driving (and editing). A worthy vid indeed!

It's the red run group. Just below white group which was mostly purpose built race cars. We all know what we are doing. At least we should being in red group.

Just making a fun video. Nothing scientific about it.

It was in track mode. Left traction on for first 2 sessions then turned everything off going to race mode. I find turning things off progressively just prolongs my anxiety about what it will feel like and what might happen. Turning everything off means I drive one new car instead of 5 (wet, dry, sport 1, sport 2, and then race). I say drive in race, be careful, make the back end step out with a little extra throttle somewhere safe on track and have a plan on how you will catch it. Then you drive with no more fear after that. It's actually really fun. Not sure if I'm really faster in race, but it's way more fun.

Until the 8 minute mark, you were not in Track Mode in the sense that you did not select a PTM sub menu setting. Your traction control settings at that point are basically the same as Sport. I say this for the benefit of readers who might get confused when they think they are in a PTM mode, but have mistakenly tapped the center button an extra time when they weren't supposed to. I did this my first day on the track (in this car). There is huge difference between this setting and actual Track Mode:Sport1 where you can nearly drift the car. At Sear Point a fellow Z06 driver had his car in Sport1 when a Ferrari dumped oil on the track ahead of him. He believes that having that safety net saved his car from hitting a wall.

It's a matter of personal choice, and like you said...fun.
