Im new to ZO6 forum and considering a ZO6 auto. Im sure this is old news, but is cylinder deactivation also standard on ZO6? Thanks for your input.

Yes, in E mode only. Works best in 6th, not 7th.

Default Cylinder deactivation

It's not in Eco mode only. It will function in Sport and Touring as well. On A8 cars its especially annoying at lower RPM's in slow traffic because it closes the AFM valves and makes the exhaust whisper quiet no matter how you set the exhaust mode. M7 cars can easily overcome it by staying in a lower gear to keep RPM's up.

On a manual car, the cylinder deactivation will only occur in Eco Mode.

On an automatic car, it will occur in all modes except during "manual" shifting mode.

I have both a Z06/07 and a Z51 with the new 8 spd transmission. The week of the 4th of July I drove up to my old homestead in New England from Sebring, Florida.

I drove 3007 miles round trip and I averaged 28.5 mpg. I noticed that with the exception of heavy acceleration or in mountainous driving, I was in V4 mode most of the time. I'm more then pleased with that mileage.

By the way. The driving up and back was the worst I've ever experienced. The roads north of the Carolina's look like something from a war zone. The traffic was horrible due to it being summer vacation time & a national holiday. Lot's of stop & go for what I saw as no reason at all. Only one accident on 295 outside Richmond.

2 days up & 2 days back. 12 hours a day driving! Never again!

The only time I can tell if my A8 Z06 has the engine V8>V4 is IF I have the DIC showing it. It is really unobtrusive and not an issue at all.

Where you in your Z06 or Z51? I am amazed to hear that it was in V4 mode most of the time. While I certainly didn't by the Z06 (A8) as an economy vehicle, I have watched it go from V8 to V4 mode while on road trips. Mine will only go into V4 mode when coasting down a hill or with VERY light throttle. At 70, on cruise on a very level highway, it's in V8. How are you getting it into V4 "most of the time"?

I don't doubt that yours is doing it because I have averaged 23+ on the road. Your 28+ beats that.

By the way, I see NO difference in the propensity to (not) go into V4 mode in Economy or Touring. Seems the same to me. Tell me your secret.....

I can't find the screen with the # of active cylinders. How do you find it?

Select the "Info" (top) tab of the menu> then scroll down and it will show up in one of the sections.

Are you suggesting that eco mode damaged his cam and lifters? Or is
Green Bay WI responsible? Did you also damage your car in eco mode? I'm confused by your post.

Hi Steve,

I was in the Z51 for my trip to New England, and since I wanted a softer ride, I stayed in Tour mode the whole time, and used cruise control as much as I could. Active engine management had total control as I did nothing special to help it, and I'm totally pleased with this feature and I don't think it detracts from the fact the C7 is a supercar.

Thanks Ed,

I use Tour most of the time but I sure don't see V4 much of the time. I wonder if the calibration that selects V4 or V8 is different with the non supercharged engine? Great mileage and great car(s). Thanks for the reply and enjoy that car!

Hi Steve,

I think someone on this forum said the V4 mode only works in the Z06 when it's in Eco mode.

Hi Ed,

I think you're right but I can guarantee that's not correct..... at least on my car. I have watched it go from V8 to V4 in both "Economy" as well as "Tour" and the indicated mileage doesn't change between modes at all from what I can see. To be clear, the indicated mileage DOES go WAY up in V4 mode but I can see no difference in the way it happens in either mode. In either mode, it will only go into V4 under VERY light throttle or down a grade. I was surprised because I would have expected it to go into V4 "aggressively" in Economy but I can't see any difference in mileage between the two.

Don't get me wrong... I LOVE the car but from what I can see, the "Economy" mode is more of a gimmick than a more economical way to drive the car.

Steve
