Saw the new paint job at the Corvette Museum
I did a VIP tour at the Corvette plant in Bowling Green last Friday. I highly recommend this for anyone with a corvette or those considering a new one. As many of you know, GM is planning to spend in excess of 400 million dollars to revamp their paint process which should go into production in about 2 years. To my surprise, at the museum they had a C7 that had undergone the new paint process. Needless to say it was the best paint job I have ever seen on a car of any kind including, Bentley, Porsche or Ferrari. It had true mirror finish with absolutely no detectable orange peel. The color was very consistent. I have a 2015 Z06 and have been underwhelmed by the paint job. This will all change when the new paint program goes into production. That might be the time for trading up.

Do you have an official source for this new process implementation plans? I'm curious to know what they are going to do differently. Ive never been put off by any of the paint that my vettes have had, but I wouldnt complain at all if it were better.

Yes, there were several others on display all with the standard paint job. There is no comparison. The new process is flawless and far superior to any paint job I have ever seen on any car. I looked it over quite closely in great detail.

All I can say is it's about damned time.
Glad they are finally getting around to addressing this issue. Good to hear.

Covering 450,000 square-feet, the site will make painting the 'Vette more efficient and environmentally friendly. The upgrades there include robots that use paint more effectively, technology to eliminate sludge water, LED lighting to improve inspections, and less energy-intensive baking ovens. While the groundbreaking is already complete for the building, full construction is expected to begin this summer and take two years.

I wouldn't expect it for the 2017's either. From May: http://www.autoblog.com/2015/05/22/g...e-paint-plant/

"... GM is planning to spend in excess of 400 million dollars to revamp their paint process..."
To put that into perspective, that's twenty million rattle-cans of spray paint.
