Trailering
Hi guys looking to get a transport trailer for a Z. Can any of you that haul them show me your setup with manufacture info? Mainly hauling to track days and maybe south in the winter. Just not sure what route to go and also I'm using a 2015 Silverado 1500 5.3 to pull it with so I'm trying to keep weight down. Thanks

I have a 2013 Silverado 1500 w same engine. I use a Kwikload 20 ft trailer and it's great. Last HPDE at Texas World...off the track at 4. Loaded and driving out by 4:25. Pulls with no problem. Suggest you get a winch.... Makes it very easy

In my experience I've winched and drove in, the only issue is getting in and out of the car once the car is in the trailer.

I have a 2014 28' CargoMate enclosed and tow with a 2014 Ram 2500 Diesel. It tows great and the D-rings that came in it are located perfectly for how I strap it down. I added a wench and I also insert rubber wedged chocs between the front wheel and trailer wheel well on both sides so that if straps do get loose (which has not happened yet, knock on wood), the car will not get against wheel well.
The last 8' of trailer is dovetailed to the ramp allowing enough clearance so I don't have to use ramp extensions.

Trailer Ramp calculator
Here's a tool that can help determine whether or not you will need a supplemental ramp to decrease the angle of your existing ramp to accommodate the approach angle on your car.
You can open the Google Sheet at this link:

I like my nextrail trailer. 1000lbs. 20ft long, beveled air dam spare wheel/tire/hub, 8ft ramps, upgraded wheels and tires. Only $6400 full loaded. They start at around $4500. I use a 2015 Ford F-250 diesel. Overkill but I know I won't have any issues

I also use a winch, makes loading a simple one man operation.

With 2 people, driving up is faster. For one person, I find winching up does not take much longer and its MUCH more assured that things will not go bump.

The aluminum ones are obviously better due to less weight but I have been borrowing a friend's steel trailer w/ some custom mods (front shield, rear gate, etc.) and no issues whether taking it locally or over a couple hundred miles away for HPDE or autox events.
With the Z06 loaded, it's approximately 5400 lbs or so... easy peezy for my Ram 1500 Hemi. In a few weeks, I'm actually buying another forum member's trailer which weighs a bit lighter.

OP where do you live and what is the terrain like in your area? What rear axle ratio do you have in your Silverado. Having the correct axle ratio can make the difference between being happy with your tow vehicle and being unhappy. I tow with a 2003 AWD 5.3 Tahoe that has a 3:73 gear ratio. My trailer is a 16 ft wood bed open trailer with a beaver tail that runs about 1800 lbs with the way I had it configured. With the car and 4 tires in the tire rack it weights right around 5500 lbs. I have been using the trailer for 22 years. I can put the Tahoe in Cruise at 70 mph and it will hold that speed on some pretty good size hills without breaking a sweat. On really steep hills it will drop down to around 50 mph.

The great thing about the KwikLoad trailers is there are no ramps to deal with and a very low incline which works well for a Vette.

Its a roll back trailer. The whole trailer is the ramp. Just like a roll back wrecker except much less incline.
