Here's a video of what's happening. from the look of this I might actually have to have this corrected. this vent is only going to get looser.

16/C7ZI was wondering what was causing problem and after your video it looks like vents moves and scraping against fender when car is moving correct. Not being a body or paint guy here is my maybe stupid question. Can vent be removed and area air brush painted then when installing vent could double sided tape or a dab of some type of sealant be applied to the back of vent to stop vibration in future or is there nothing on back side of vent to attach too ?

A light sanding of the vent contours would remove the contact area. But it's a pain to take off.

From the looks of the driver's side vent which is nothing like the passenger side but is still not "perfect in those corners" I think my passenger side vent is not molded correctly causing the bottom to move in and out with air pressure and heat-cooling of the panel.

i was reading a blog (where the writer is very harsh on the car and Tadge a little over the top imo) but he has it pegged. It's the opening in the Z06 fender with no central support like the Stingray..

The Z06 opening is TOO big for a plastic panel to not have some reinforcement. a poor design. Doesn't show up until you get the variance in a vent not PERFECTLY formed, or an installer that bends the clips a little too far out when putting in the vent.. that's the clip side which is not tight enough imo.

i don't think it's a good idea to NOT allow the panel to contract and expand. i would be afraid of cracking this paint. these panels are so DELICATE it's scary (for those of us in climate changing zones).

I cut the excess paint (like the other member mentioned he did) off and it's getting more tolerable each time i look at it. I plan on touching up the panel (have a friend who is a very skilled body guy owns a shop about 1.5hrs from me also does the ceramic coatings, etc) once the paint pen comes. if the problem persists i will THEN pull that vent cause of course it's on the tank side

here's some pics after i cut the paint with a razor blade. it can be cleaned up a bit more but good for now.

I also included some pics from his blog showing the stingray vent opening with the support vs the WIDE opening in Z06 and GS's. also there's a yellow Z06 fender exhibiting same problem as ours

15 Z...same problem on the driver side fender...took it to the dealer says it can be fixed without repainting the painting the fender. Waitning for my last oil change to repair.

love to see some pics of yours before and after the fix.

I emailed Mike Furman this morning and as always, he got back to me within minutes advising that he would reach out to some people at plant he knows and see what if anything is being done to address this and the extent of the issue. here is his response. (he assumed it would be a while for the reply is where the message picks up)

mike also checked his Z06's and GS on the lot and they don't appear to have any issues (yet). Maybe it's something that shows up after a few miles on some do to way they were molded and/or installed.

Mike Furman, going above and beyond every time. thanks again Mike!

After the winter detail today, I have noticed both driver & passenger side vents have the same issues in the bottom corner. I hope they come up with an easy fix, I'm not ok with another respray, already had the front corner of the bumper near the headlight resprayed with only a couple grand on the clock.

I replaced the side vents with carbon fiber pieces and there it was on both sides just as others have described... Any idea when the dealers will receive the service bulletin??

It's definitely a usage-related issue. The vent flexes with airflow, heat cycling or body panel torque during driving and then rubs off the paint. Stupid little problem but very frustrating.

on my car it looks to me to be more of a hurry up and insert the vent in the hole before the paint is close to fully curing combined with a poor design (no gasket).

I got this from my local chey dealer other day. If any of you guys have this (go and inspect your cars please to force them to move on it) maybe the added cases will move things forward. I'm hoping for a redesigned fender vent which is oversized and shaped to cover the corners.

Hi Again Tony, Bill at Lester Glenn Chevy. I heard back from my District
Manager thru Email. It seems that GM is aware of the concern & is
working on the "fix". NO date is known for when this remedy will be but
I will keep this Email trail in my folder & update you as soon as I hear
something. Thank you for your patience with this, I'll notify you when I
get any additional information.
Thanx again,,, Bill A

I just checked my '16 with 6700 miles and have the paint defect on both fenders as well. Please update this thread when the TSB is released by GM. Thank you!

contact chevy customer service on this forum they will set you up with a call from your service dept. Takes lots of pics like I did. And you can send them to the service manager and he or she will then forward to the regional rep.

this way it will get them moving more the merrier. Hoping they come up with new vent design and some compensation for the trouble. Never would I expect to purchase a brand new car let alone a corvette and have to deal with paint chipping off on something they had plenty of time to rectify with a vent design alteration.

they all do it. Some owners just don't notice it. And some aren't as bad as others.

go to private message in your user cp and send a message to "chevy Cust svc"

Thanks for the video that's not the same vent though is it? I didn't watch all 15 minutes. But I believe that's the quarter panel vent. We are talking about the front fender vents.

I'm not touching a thing anyway until gm does something. Not happy about it. Love this car and will have to deal woth whatever the fix is but not happy.

I bought a brand new one because I didn't want to have to deal with someone else's neglect (chips, scratches whatever). If I put the mark on it or happened under my watch? Fine. But this is unacceptable.

this was chevy Cust Svc reply.

Thank you for letting us know, Tony! I will be sending this thread to the appropriate team so they may review this feedback.

Best,

Julie C
Chevrolet Customer Care
so hopefully whoever from corporate is responsible and reads this will light a fire under WHOMEVER'S rearend and get this fixed.

from what I've researched, I would have to believe that by now some of the GS's should be displaying same signs as us. (Unless they put a gasket underneath?).
