Ah, the meltdown has begun. This forum is strange in that the comparison threads with anything unfavorable about the Z06 bring out childish baiting about how great the competitor is, blind-brand-loyalty-based insults, and of course some name-calling thrown in.
By comparison, at another forum, the Porsche 991 GT3 and RS owners debate and respect the ACR and many of them are buying one or have one already. There is never a meltdown or need to move the thread into the land of misfit threads, like where this thread may be headed.
Z06 and ACR Extreme are both great and even better is that they are both domestically made and great value propositions. OF COURSE it's personal preference what to buy. No one's preference is either wrong or stupid between these two cars, either. You have to be a pretty serious track rat to buy the ACR, but if you are most think it is the clear choice. I personally agree the Z06 is the clear choice as a street GT car and probably so for casual track use, especially if you are not running 10/10.
But WTF on dumping on one car or its owner? Grow up, people - you make domestic car lovers, Viper or Vette, look like Neanderthals.

Not trying the derail this thread so moderators ignore this but Chevy NEEDS a zr1 if the don't want to be dominated performance wise for the next SEVERAL years until the c8 z06 comes out.

Good job for ACR and Z06. Don't get too caught up in lap times. You can always put the same type of aero and invest in coilovers which will get you the extra 3 seconds. Some guys with C5 and C6 Z06 ran 1:32 at Laguna with aftermarket upgrades (aero/ suspension). My personal opinion is the Z06 is still better all around and it be can improved further with couple of aftermarket components. It looks amazing, it sounds better and as MT guys said its more comfortable and civilized.

I stated my opinions in my own thread, so I'm not gonna retype them. I do have to say:
For ONCE can everyone get along and enjoy two of the best American Super Cars built setting amazing lap times without arguing. I mean honestly, how could you hate either car?

Ain't really anything to argue about...
Z06, America's Sports Car with "open air performance"
ACR, America's Track/Time Attack/Kick *** and take names Car
The end...

Interesting that the Z06 almost seemed to be exhibiting a repeat of when it was tested earlier in 2015 when the caster was out of whack....car exhibited a bunch of oversteer then as well.
Wouldn't surprise me if that situation repeated itself. I love the Corvette but...it ain't a perfect machine, let's be real.
I'm not as saddened by the loss to the ACR as I am the comments about the reliability, the unpredictable nature, etc. In the C5Z era, the Corvette was the easy car to drive fast, and the Viper was the unpredictable, unfinished car.
Future of the Z06 needs to be either much lighter, use a redesigned engine platform with a more linear power delivery so it can put it down (or electric supercharging control/hybrid), or go mid-engine. Essentially a dead heat with the ZR1.

No question...
C7Z was burdened with having to be a sharing platform with CTS-V...the powerplant had to be capable of propelling a 4100lb sedan capably. It wasn't the proper architecture to continue with the spirit of Z06.
Bob Lutz made it clear though, the budget for C7 was chopped big time. The fact that the car is as good as it is, is a feat. All we can do is hope that strong sales, lead to a better future for this car...I personally am still driving my C5Z for a reason. The car is light, was beautifully balanced, really focused on less mass and simplicity...at the same time though, with all these federal mandates, you almost can't have a simple car anymore.

GM figured out a way to shed hundreds of pounds from the 2016 Camaro and the CTS I believe. There is a way to do it but getting funds cut hurt the C7 Platform immensely.

That was a great video. I love both cars and would be happy with either one. I hope GM builds a lightweight, more track oriented Z06 with a NA engine.

Very well put. They are both beasts. Lucky in the present day we can still have monsters like these.
