Vinyl Hood Stinger Replacement
Gents,
As you know I am trying to upgrade to the 2016 exposed carbon fiber hood. Until I find a replacement I want to install a faux vinyl carbon fiber stinger decal. My issue is I currently have carbon flash stinger from the factory. The body shop I took the car to install the decal warned me the possibility of the original stinger decal pulling up paint/clear coat when it was removed. Any thoughts or suggestions do I have anything to worry about? I do not know the process of how the factory vinyl stinger is removed or installed. Any info would be appreciated. BTW the carbon fiber decal matches the rest of the GM CF perfectly. Thanks in advance!

I have removed Shelby Stripes on a Shelby. Little heat from heat gun the come right off.
Or no heat they come off.
Paint stayed on car. I cannot imagine vynil taking clear coat off.
Try another shop.

I just removed my vinyl stinger stripe to have it painted. It took some work to remove but it can be done with no damage to paint. Use a hair dryer.

Thanks Gents,
I will plan on removing the carbon flash and install the exposed CF. Will send pictures when complete.

Why? Problems with the vinyl? Always thought $500 for a GM vinyl sticker was over the top and a painted one would be better and probably for the same money or less aftermarket.

I just ordered my C7 Z06. I almost ordered the OE carbon flash stinger, but thought I might prefer an aftermarket faux carbon fiber instead, but didn't know if there was one available out there or not. If so, where can I get one. Not in a hurry - I won't get my car for probably another couple months!!
TIA

I got it on e-bay from a company in AZ...they do decals for muscle cars as well...GTO...chevelles...cuda's...mustan gs etc. Go to e-bay search C7 Z06 B92 Stinger. I have the decal but have not installed. The CF matches the GM Sage III Carbon Fiber perfectly. Will post pictures once installed.

Got it thru a GM dealer.. sorry can't remember the part number.. But when you "build" your new Z it's one of the options now available.

I take it yours (and the one on azcanuk's car) are actually 2 different decals???
I guess you put on the Carbon Flash stinger, then put the Jake decal on top of that - is that correct???

Correct 2 pieces. Painted my stinger stripe for about the same price as vinyl.

Yes, they are different. The part numbers I posted were for the original C7-R decals. I do not know the GM PN for the one piece that azcanuk posted.
You put down the carbon flash first and let it dry then apply the Jake on top of it. Looks like this when you're done. The Jake is only an outline on one side and the carbon flash shows through. The other side is solid:

Actually, when mine was delivered to the dealer it was one piece. It had the Jake on top of the CF already, removed the old CF stinger and installed the new Jake stinger..

There are likely two different generations of decals used by the factory, but I have never found a PN for the one piece.
