Default Z06 Reproductions wheels for track use ???

Does anyone have any experience with using Z06 repro wheels for track use. I was talking with Bob at House of Wheels, and he was concerned about putting a Chinese wheel on my 100K car for track use. I have used repro's before and have had no issues, but suddenly I am concerned. I want to mount 19" Hoosier R7's on all four corners, hence forth, I was going to buy 19/10's for the front and 19/12's for the rear, but I definitely don't want any issues at the track, especially Daytona.

The last thing you want to have happen is a wheel come apart while trying to brake hard just prior to a high speed turn. Hello wall, good-bye Z06. Stock is minimum quality for track. Hard core track rats have broken stock wheels. (although the history of the stock wheels that broke might have included some pot hole stress from street driving)

Look at CCW C10s. Very strong and very safe. If you are going to run 315 fronts I recommend 10.5-11" wide. If you are going to run 345 rears I suggest 13" wide.

If you are just going to putt around the track any wheels will work.

Good luck!

I would never do this Tony. Far better to spend a little extra for a dedicated wheel that would be much stronger and lighter than a reproduction wheel. Plus, if you keep a high quality wheel in semi-decent condition, you'll actually be able to get a decent proportion of your money back when/if you ever sell.

Can't speak to the quality these days but I bought a set from Bob all the waaaaaaaaay back in 2009 and they are still kicking with 100+ HPDE events on them (4 races per event so 400+ sessions).

Lol. I did also, and never had an issue. I had them on my C5, and C6. And actually, I was planning on buying the repro's and slapping some Continentals on there for daily driving, and using the Michelins for track stuff, then I thought about getting 4 19" wheels and sticking some Hoosier R7's on there for strictly track use, but he scared me with his comment. I haven't heard of anybody's wheel coming apart, but I don't want to be the first one either, especially at Daytona.

Make sure you get a JWL or TUV Certified wheel if you are going aftermarket.

Daytona in a C7 Z06 on cheap track rims?

.....get a set of CCWs, Finspeeds, or Forgelines.

Just my .02 cents (and I neither own a Z06 or have run Daytona).

Can't verify original equipment Corvette wheels as being manufactured in China, but talked with Kirk Bennion at length on Corvette wheels at a HPDE. Kirk confirmed GM wheels are built to about 2X SAE standards for Corvette applications.

Random thought: you could run the repros on the street and the factory wheels at the track, which is presumably more demanding.

Bottom line, however, don't run unsafe wheels at all! I ponied up for stock GM spare wheels, which wasn't cheap, but I feel secure (except for the drag radials!)
