C7 ZO6 vs. Viper TA
Okay, so it's my first post. I'm a guy, early 40's living in Scottsdale, AZ with a wonderful wife, 3 kids, one on the way etc.
I have owned 20 cars in my life...most of them BMW's. A 911 here and there, a couple of Gen IV Vipers, Nissan GTR, Dodge Challenger Hellcat and a few other's not worth mentioning.
I have always admired the Vette. Particularly the C6, and of course the C7. I just sold my Nissan GTR with 12,700 incredible miles on it. Say what you want, but that car is just absolutely nuts. A little boring to drive after you've owned it for awhile...but that's pretty much the case with everything. So, last month with a Hellcat, and a 2014 Viper TA in my garage, I decide that I think I will let the Hellcat go, and the only thing that I could really come up with was a ZO6. I've read plenty about the car over the years, and I've always been entertained by all the pissing contests between the Vette and Viper faithful.
Here is my $.02 for what it's worth:
Based on exterior looks alone, my eye is more taken by the Viper. I personally like the fact that you never see them on the road. It's a unique car, and I really have a heart for it. On the track the car is an absolute beast and that's where it is really at home.
On to the Vette...my wife gave me a rash of **** for buying it. Probably because I didn't tell her and she showed up from work and it was sitting in the garage. After I explained my rationale, I asked her to drive it. Normally, I don't let her drive my cars, but nonetheless, we took it out and she fell in love in about 3 minutes.
The Vette does everything really well. The interior is flat out gorgeous. I seriously am blown away by how much I enjoy driving it. There is simply no comparison regarding which is a "better car." I think you can argue that the Viper might be a touch more comfortable as a track car, but the Vette is a clear winner in every other category in my opinion.
With all that said, if I had to choose just one car in my garage, I don't know what I would do. I'm happy I don't have to decide. There are a few things that the Viper does for me that are unique. But the Vette has my jaw on the floor when I take everything into account in terms of what I want from a car. Chevy nailed it. That's the truth from my perspective.
Happy to be on the forum with you good folks...hoping I don't get heckled too much!

Yup, I love the orange TA. I could only have one so I chose the vette but that orange TA was on my radar. Nice garage, you have good taste. Nice to see you mentioned the wonderful wife and kids. That is a big part of my happiness as well.

I was and to an extent still am considering a Gen V Viper. 2013 - 2014's seem to be a bit cheaper than 2015 Z06's. You can find a lot of really good low mileage ones for low 70's. I love the exterior looks of both the Viper and Z06 but what keeps swaying me towards getting a Z06 is the technology in and on it. I'm not sure how much the Viper weighs but I believe these cars should be pretty even with the Z06 being 650/650 and the Viper is 640/600?

See, even when I think I'm doing good at a tick under 7 figures, someone comes along and reminds me I still have a ways to go and makes me feel poor. Thanks. Nice stable of cars. I myself just got into a z06/07 pkg from a 15 GTR BE. Looooooooooooooove the Z06 so far.

Both cars are bone stock. I still don't know if my GTR would beat my Hellcat rolling from 20 or 30. In a dig, the GTR wins no question. My intent was to get a buddy and take them out to some open road somewhere but it never happened. The power in the Vette feels a little more manageable. It's not as raw as the Viper. My gut tells me the Viper wins by a hair, but with these cars it's all about the driver. Especially with a manual tranny.

Depending on the size of your "tick" we are all just a tick under...

Haha, true, but I'm literally like $100k away from finally being able to say I make a million $'s a year. So, to me, a tick is $100k. If I was like $250k away, then that's not a tick. And by no means am I one of those, i make this much guys. I just assume most of us do well for ourselves in general. I love seeing success from others that's for sure. Maybe if I had spots for 4 cars, I'd prob have 4 cars. Don't go to the McLaren forums. Jeezus, those guys. They really make me feel poor. Like unemployment poor. But, tis life and we all enjoy it as we can. Moving on.

The Z06 for many reasons is a better car. It looks the BEST and whether people want to admit it or not it is AMERICA's sports car. It is a V8 with a supercharger and can easily handle 900-1000hp as the internals are very strong. The other cars would melt somewhere in the transmission, internals or just cant make that power reliably. I have owned and do own many sportcars. The interior of the C7 is so much more refined than the C6 was. Bang for buck, sound, look, track and reliability, easy to work on, wow factor, value there is no comparison. GM keeps doing a fine Job.

mystoxup, I recently upgraded from a 2008 C6 ZO6 to a 2016 ZO6 ZO7. I have to say what a great car the C7 is. I expect to hit my 500 miles and oil change on Saturday. Look up "Corvettes and Caffeine" on the internet and come out the First Saturday of the month. It is in Scottsdale on Scottsdale Road south of "Old Town" Lots of cars and people with common interests. Be great to meet you and welcome you into the Valley Corvette Scene. Lots of great clubs around with good people to share your experience with. Mine is Laguna Blue with black wheels. Hope to see you there.

I agree, someone has a spending problem or a high maintenance wife...I make less than $100k a year but I've saved for years and money compounds. I'm 50/years old now and retired.
