Default Dealer service drove over 150 miles

So I dropped my 2016 z06 for my 500 mile oil change and to fix a whistling noise coming the driver window at the local Chevy dealer, and the dealer put over 150 miles on the car. I could not believe they did this and when I asked the manager, they apologized and offered to fill up my tank with gas. I told them to go to hell. I also called coporate and they said all they could do was extend warranty an extra 150 miles. Has this happened to anybody else? I am considering suing in small claims court for extended warranty. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

I track my car with OnStar when it is for service.

I could careless about a mileage extension for 150 miles....I'd be concerned about someone abusing my car and burning up MY $500 dollar tires.

I'd be pissed. Maybe see if you can get free oil changes for the life of the car?

Good idea. But make sure the warranty extends 150 miles for every oil change.

Back in the late 80's there was a Bucks County PA dealership that if your Corvette was left in their shop Friday at closing the service writer would take it to the Jersey Shore for the weekend, that is until the owner saw the car in Ocean City NJ, yea he lost his job.

As the oil change horror stories continue to accumulate, I can see the argument for changing your own oil become clearer and clearer.

These dealer stories never cease to amaze. OP, you really should identify this fine establishment so others can avoid such an experience. This kind of thing would stop if there were some real repercussions for the dealership. As usual, GM appears to be MIA.

It is amazing what some dealers think they can get away with. There is probably no damage to your car. More than likely the service manager took it for a ride. I would guess this is a low volume Corvette dealer and having one in their shop is a rare event. They obviously know who took it for a ride. You should meet with the dealership owner and explain your concern and perhaps strike up some sort of deal where you get free oil changes for as long as you have your car.

This would be a tough one and would depend on the "goodwill" of the offending Dealer. It would be a small claims court affair anyway and you would have to show/prove how you were harmed. I would be livid myself good luck with extracting the proverbial pound of flesh!!

I would be crazy mad!

Your car was basically stolen for a joy ride!

I would reach out to the owner of the dealership. He or she may be as shocked as you what happened and may provide some action.

If no action there I would go to local media for a buyer beware piece to get them exposed. If you are in to social media I would blow it up there also.

I had a 2008 Z06 and now have a 2016. When my car is at the dealership I wait for it. If it will be there multiple days or over night the instructions are that if the car leaves the lot I will need to be in the car. I also request to meet the technician that will be working on the car to have the same discussion and talk about the work to be done. This is not negotiable.

Would you mind letting the rest of us know where this dealer is so that we may avoid and pass the word of their unscrupulous behavior?

Sorry for your troubles brother...

Man that sucks. I'm sorry to hear about this. That's one of the reasons I stood right next to my car last week with the first oil change. To make sure it was done correctly and no abuse to the car. I dread the day I have to leave it at the dealer for any warrantee work. If I ever do... I'll make damn sure with the dealer no test drives what so ever unless I'm there.

Can the computer be scanned to see over revs, hitting rev limiter, etc?

This information is saved but can probably be deleted as well. The C7 has a diagnostic mode that can be accessed by the dealer where even the odometer can be frozen at its current setting. So in reality anybody can have their car taken for a long ride and be none the wiser when they get it back.

If a dealer drove my car for 150 miles to "evaluate" a wind noise issue, heads would roll. That management would permit something like that speaks volumes about the dealership, which should be avoided like the plague.

OP- Unfortunately, don't waste your time and money in small claims court. Impossible to assess or compute damages. Very unlikely, but not impossible, that you would get any satisfaction from a court action.

I insist on going along for those 'diagnostic rides'. If I drive, they can better focus on the issue I want addressed.

I would let it be known on this and other forums who the dealer is and exactly what they did. I would also identify the service person that was responsible for your car. I am sure our forum members would like to know to avoid this dealer at all costs. So you would be doing us a service. I suspect they will lose a sale or two and certainly some service work if you post the details about your experience. Also, I agree with the comment made above that you should consider meeting with the owner to let him know how they treated you. What would it cost them to rent a Z06 for a day? I bet it would be $300+. You should send them the bill.

Agree with everyone's comments and believe this warrants a Better Business Bureau complaint be lodged against the dealer. This needs to be addressed so everyone else understands exactly how under-handed this dealership really is. I would also talk to a lawyer about the "stolen car" scenario, as this will probably get better results with the dealership
