Track Day at Sebring! WoW! video
Finally had my first track day with my new Z - and all I can say is WOW!
This car is truly a beast!
The good - the car is a VERY capable car. I ran the car completely stock with oil, brake and coolant change. The avg temps for the was 87 degrees. Tires are the stock MPSS
The car is SO fast and has so much mechanical grip and balance. The stock brakes and pads are amazing. I experienced no fade - and I was completely confident. I hit my personal best with a 2:23 lap time - and lapping anyone on the track as if they were cruising, even with a passenger in the car. The auto is lighting fast - the sounds of the shift are intoxicating and the roar of the engine is musical.
The bad - I did hit limp mode after a few hard laps - I quickly did a cool down lap and the car was ready for another 3 - 4 hard laps of action. Each session is 30 minutes. However at the end of the last session (session 4) after going into limp mode and doing a cool down lap, I brought the car into pit lane. After parking the car in the garage I noticed water under the car. It was the coolant boiling over - which didn't occur any of the last 3 sessions. It looks as if it is coming from the water pump area. I refilled the coolant and drove home as the car wasn't overheating and coolant temps didn't get over 225. I will take it to the dealership to see what the issue is.
All in all - I am VERY pleased with the car - it is very fun and capable. All temps were within range except oil - which continued to rise causing limp.

Sounds like you had a lot of fun.
When you pull off track, park and immediately turn it off there's no air flow to dissipate the heat and it'll boil over. Try letting it idle for a minutes and let the electric fans do their thing then turn it off.

Hello, I did let it idle for a few minutes before turing off - I also have two small fans on both side of the engine that I run too. Im under the impression that the water pump may be no good...

Scraping the splitter.
Nice.
Note that 2nd is probably too low for T10 and T13. You'll probably be faster through there in 3rd as you won't over-slow to get into 2nd and will be smoother. Just IMO.
Good lap.

Thanks - yes - I held the down shift paddle too long and it shifted all the way to 2nd, in which I shifted back to third. I agree third is better and smoother. Just thinking about it - 2:23 is a good time and still so much room to improve - WOW!

Do you upshift manually with the A8 on track or will the car upshift at redline on it's own? Or will it hit the limiter until you command the upshift? Neat to hear the PTM working off-corner.

I shift manually - it will hold the gear and hit limiter and not upshift until you command it - as you can see and hear shifts are quick and crisp!

Was that with stock alignment or track alignment?
I assume non-Z07 since you said stock MPSS?
Thanks,
Doug

What day did you run? I was there Sunday with the GT500 (friend's car). Did pretty well until the right rear caliper seals let go and I got a black flag from the smoke blowing out the wheel well. Couldn't get it fixed in time to keep running. Friends were there in their Z06 and GT350 as well. Hope to catch you at another event.
