Don't shoot!
I've been looking at getting a Cayenne...no, not trading in my Z06....I'm unloading the POS Enclave instead.
What would be a good Porsche forum to join and read up on the Cayenne? I've read Consumer Reports but I'd like actual driver feedback and to run some prices by other owners to see if the deal is good.

get a lightly used 2014 Cayenne GTS--no longer making the great NA 4.8L V8 engine...all turbo or diesel now
The GTS has most of the options people would add to a well appointed Cayenne included in the price, plus styling changes, wheels and a better engine...they have taken their big hit-depreciation already, so you can find good deals.
Very beautiful interior (911 like) for an SUV, IMHO.
Macan is too small for my tastes. I need 3 rows now (QX56), but once kids are out of the house I will be looking for a Cayenne (or Maserati Levante, or Jag F-Pace for the wife--again too small for my taste)

I'm looking at both new and CPO but I'm leaning towards the hybrid, most of my driving will be short trips that can maximize the hybrids electric. The Macan seems too small...I really wanted 7 passenger but I am not thrilled with the options in that size.

Rennlist is the best site to go to. You can also try Pelican parts board.
I own a 2005 cayenne turbo and love it.
As with any car some years have known items you will want to make sure have been dealt with or plan to do so. For our 2005 it includes coolant pipes, Drive shaft bushing and possible cracked coil packs. Change those out and the car will run great for a very long time.

I cross shopped the Cayenne years back and found it to be on the smaller side but it was definitely one of the most performance oriented vehicles in the segment. You may want to also consider looking at a Q7 with the 3.0T which can be easily modded/tuned to deliver significantly more performance, this will also get you a 3rd row vehicle with much more room. I would also give a hard look at the current generation SRT-8 Grand Cherokee, it's light years better than the first generation in terms of fit/finish and used ones can be had for a decent price if you can forego the 3rd row seating.

First gen cayenne turbos seem to be priced well...
Just curious what the cost would be for the common repairs you mentioned,
Nice car

Keep in mind a lot (most) of the Cayenne is shared with the Touareg and the Q7. So if you're looking at the hybrid, unless the badge and styling are a must, you might be equally well served and save many grand with one of those two. The Hybrid system is exactly the same between the two.
I'd have a Cayenne GTS in a heartbeat though. That's a great V8 engine they had in them. Those actually hold value really well, mot of the regular Cayennes do not.

Carden drive shaft was about $800 parts and labor at an independent Porsche mechanic I use.
I bought the 2005 Porsche Cayenne Turbo with 50,600 miles back around Dec 2012 for $28000. I have around 78K miles now and it runs great. We use it as a daily driver and for taking all of our longer car trips.
We plan on buying a newer one (2012-2014) once we get around 100K miles on our current one.
