Blew my transmission

Blew my transmission
Went to the drag strip last weekend and tried out the nitrous. Blew the transmission it is an A8. what a bummer. Dynoed at 770whp. made a few passes and then car would not move. Chevrolet house said killed the transmission. they are trying to get one from the factory so we can make the Arkansas Mile next week, on national back order. I have not seen a lot of transmission failures on here. who else has had one fail and at what power levels. I had 20k miles on mine and what I thought was a reasonable power. Guess I was wrong there. Guess I will probably pull the nitrous and go back to my 610hp at the wheels. I guess I will start scrounging up my fun money and look at buying a C5 or C6 already built. still need to go faster but cannot afford to break this one too often. Curious who else has broken their transmission. I cant believe they are not going to warranty. All we had was headers, CAI, Meth. Nitrous , and tune.

Dang Kevin, that sucks. A lot of us have been wondering what the power limit is on the A8.
Hope you can get a new trans in time for the Ar mile. Pretty darned tight time window on that.
LOL at your warranty comment - at least you're keeping your sense of humor. Gotta be able to smile.

we're arguing about high horsepower mods between a GTR and a Z06 on one of the other threads. What kind of price will you be paying for your replacement transmission, if you don't mind sharing that number? In a GTR, a replacement trans is just over $22,000 plus installation, which I'm sure is equally painful. More HP generally will equate (try always equates!) to higher loads on a transmission, especially an automatic. Thanks!

I was at the dealership this week for service and they had a Z06 with blown rear differential. I was told the owner was pushing for replacement to be covered under warranty but GM denied it because the car had nitrous and other engine modifications.

Shouldn't be breaking these A8's at this level... What exactly broke, did y'all wear out the clutches or really break some hard parts in there? I've seen a buncha A8 issues so my money is on either faulty trans from factory or not the best tuning on the trans which that in it self can kill a trans real quick.
What kinda tires u running?
What's ur launch RPMs?
60ft?
Stock converter I take it?
Trans tune?

Ummm my ISF 8spd with 350whp stock, 200 shot nitrous ISF pushing 650whp+ had no problem. So 200whp more than stock is nothing. Nitrous ISF guys have had over 150 passes at the track, plus street uses totaled up 30-40k miles without any problem. A decently built transmission in a high performance sport car should be overbuilt for these kind of numbers. I mean as long as we are not talking 500whp or tq over stock

Not sure what broke yet. seems odd though. launching about 2300 rpm with drag radials. not any harder than usual. best 60ft was 1.60 , not that great. stock converter. i think the tuner did play with transmission but not certain. ran car only a few passes with nitrous. without nitrous we were about 610. seemed to have some issues with transmission since day one. had to have it re trained when still stock. quite often when i would put in drive it would stall several seconds and clunk in to gear pretty hard. has me nervous enough to discontinue the nitrous and stay around 600 whp. hoping the stock chevy tune is the right way to go now. i would have bet a rear end problem but i am sure they know what they are talking about. may be a cumulative thing. i run the car pretty hard from time to time. in hind sight i would have maybe installed a CAI and bought an old c5 or something else to really beat on. live and learn. have a nice nitrous setup for sale cheap.

Had to ask, I've read some crazy posts where people seemed shocked modding and I don't mean a catch can, voided warranty coverage!
Your misfortune does let us A8 guys know the upper limit of what the trans can handle isn't much higher than where it's at right now.
Thanks for that, despite the cost of this lesson!
