Default One Z06 and one Stingray on fire at COTA 6/26/16

A friend of mine was at COTA yesterday and saw two Z06s go up in flames.

Both were apparently significantly modified at the same tuner shop.

There is some info and pics on one of them: https://m.facebook.com/photo.php?fbi...id=18&__tn__=E

Ironically, one of the license plates was BURNEDU.

I also gather that everyone walked away unscathed.

Posting it just in case a member here owns or knows either of these cars so that they can inform everyone what mods not to do.

Looking at that pic a little closer, that actually looks like a Stingray.

Yup I cought that right after I posted, and requested a thread title change.

The other car was definitely a Z06 though, although I don't have any more info on it.

Hopefully someone with more details can chime in.

Anything is expected with heavily modified cars.

Ouch! Would be interesting to understand what mods both cars did, and if it was same root cause for both.

Based on the location of the flames and color of the smoke I am guessing a fuel rail/line came loose on the driver side. Glad everyone is ok! I hope they had insurance coverage for a track day!

Does track day insurance cover damage form mechanical failures?

Some does and some doesn't. It is not cheap but generally you get what you pay for.

I had some friends there and the aftermarket exhaust was close to the trunk floor, it's happened on C5-C7. I think they were just C7s, not Z06s.

Sounds like a cautionary tale on the realities of modding...

out of politeness it would be good to remove the license plate reference. they were methane injected supercharged engines that just did not make it...

courtesy dictates candor..
