Default 2016 Z06 startup questions

Gents.. I recently acquired a new Z06 and really love it a lot. I do have some questions about some of the sounds I hear when I first start it up in the morning. I hear a strange humming noise that I really don't hear for the rest of the time I'm driving it and the idle is some what a bit choppy.

Are these normal Z behaviors or do I have something I need to get taken cared off? Thank you much in advance for your help.

Congrats for your Z! I have the same since day 1 and those noises usually disappear as the car warm up. I am not paying attention to them anymore. I believe those to be normal.
Enjoy

Same here. Goes away when the car warms up. I just remind myself that the closer a car leans to 'race car' the more mechanical noises you get. And this thing has race car blood.

It's got 650hp... takes a lot of mechanical support.

Haha.. I agree and don't doubt that but my Viper doesn't do anything of this sort. I guess I'm happy that it's normal and there isn't a issue with the car.

I just picked mine up about 12 days ago and notice the same "choppy" engine idle like when I am waiting at a light. Kinda seemed wierd to me for a car that barely has about 350 miles on it. But, glad it's not just me. Enjoying those 350 miles thus far though.

The engine runs a little ruff, but it's normal.

Mine also has rough idling when the engine us warming up. The dealer tech said they have the cold rpms coming down to quick before the engine is warm. I notice my Avalanche in the same garage with same temperature idles much longer at higher rpms before the idle comes down.

I had a 69 Vert with the 427, 435hp, tri power carbed, L-71 motor.
I swear my Z has about the same characteristics as the 69.
I love the lumpy erratic sound.

there is an electric pump you can hear running, most often on startup to build vacuum in the brake booster

This right here makes sense towards the sound that I hear. Now I'm much more comfortable with the sound. Thank you sir.

It does, but it seems weird too.

Do you observe some strange humming sounds as well during initial start up of the day?

camshaft has a lot of duration on the exhaust lobe which is causing the "lumpy" idle....which isn't lumpy, btw, it is just not toyota camry smooth but I think we know why.

drive a car with a big cam that won't idle below 950 to see lumpy. the Z06 does pretty good for 650 RPM idle.

Agreed... I had a C6Z with the sick stick pkg from Vette Doc's and my Supra is over 1200 wheel with very aggressive cams. I'm used to all of this race car characteristics but was just wondering what the hum was when I started it in the morning.

So... Now that I've got some miles on it and many more start stop cycles. The humming sound in the morning seems to be from the passenger side fire wall area. Sounds like it may have to do with the dry sump system since it right there but could be wrong. Any ideas? Do people notice this as well in the morning? Maybe the pump makes this hum in the morning a normal thing?

I think it's amazing they got a 650hp motor to act as docile as it does when it's cold, really. Anything with 650hp that you can fire up and back out of the garage without a whimper or a stall or a bog is pretty amazing. Especially if you're ever tried to get a carbureted high performance motor to do it, or tried to cold-start-tune a powerful EFI motor for that matter.

And then within about 30 seconds it's a Camry so far as part-throttle manners go.
