Default Rippling leather on center armrest

I noticed after I got home from a trip last weekend that there is about a 4 by 6 inch area where my elbow rests in the middle arm rest that the leather has a very noticeable rippling effect where my elbow rests. Is this an issue you guys have run into? Is this a factory warranty repairable claim item?

I've seen this complaint before. One fix was leaving the car in the sun on a hot day for a while. It's an easy replacement part either with OEM or aftermarket options. But I'd definitely run it past the dealer first.

I have exactly the same experience with only 1,500 miles on the car. I think I rest my elbow on the console when I get in, but even so it seems pretty bad at this stage oft he car's life. Is it possibly a warranty item? Are there any replacements with perhaps thicker leather? Inquiring minds want to know...--Bob

I wonder if it's a leather issue or whether the factory should have used better memory foam underneath. If you work with the dealer, you may get a replacement and that replacement may have the same problem. Perhaps a trip to a custom auto upholsterer may give better answers.

I also wonder if it's Mulan vs. Napa leather issue.

I don't think the armrest is leather. It is probably vinyl like most portions of the seat.

I noticed it at about 5000 miles with the Mulan in my 2LZ (well I assume that the armrest was covered in the same stuff as the seats, which I think is "bonded leather" which I don't think is really leather. I say this because my 3LZ armrest also seems covered in the same stuff as the seats, which in the case of the 3LZ is softer and smoother than the 2LZ.

I expect that the 3LZ will do the same. The indent would seem to be a function of the foam underneath, not the covering material. I think that one guy here managed to get it replaced under warranty last year....not sure.....

High wear areas are usually vinyl. However, an indentation usually points to the material below the skin.

When choosing the GM "Z06" logo armrest, it lists both Mulan and Nappa, so I'm thinking that the non logo armrest is the same material.
