lordofwar,

Can you shoot a pic of the back of your car similar to the view of lane change has done?
I'm debating whether to do what you did or replace the exhaust tips altogether...

cant now its dark out,i will but whats the point?i only painted the insides black, not the hole tip because its not needed.give it it try, only $6 and about 5 minutes work.if you don't like it just take it off with 000 steel wool.pipes will look the same beacause there is no sanding involved to scratch the finish.

Not to bust on OP's post because I think it looks great regardless, but I spent a little more time in the prep stage. If you tape the edges you will get a better result on the "tips of the tips"

I saw your post.you did a lot of prep work and did the whole tip.i did that on my 2012 gs.i really did not want to go through all that prep work because as you know our tips are hard to get at where as my 2012 gs they were exposed and easier to do the whole tip.nice job.

Thanks. It wasn't a huge time investment. Probably an hour and a half all in while drinking a half bottle of whisky with my buddy (he's the one in the pics). He's also a mensa engineer who probably works at three times the pace I can lol

At the end of the day I'm happy with the result with a similar investment as OP. The pipes look the same as original 8 months and 8,000 miles later. great mod.

You need a wash job anyway! Mine never get that black. But I wash mine a lot and it is not an issue.

Thanks, I was curious what it would look like on White.

I am going to have to keep wiping, because I like how the Metal Tips break up the Black facade on a White car

You should have heard my wife when she realized that I was going to drill into the rockers to install my side skirts. She was ready to call the men in the white suits to take me away......

Interesting note: My June 2016 built 2016 z06 blackens the exhaust tips must more slowly than my July 2015 built 2016 Z06. The newer one also sounds a little different on cold start than the older car. The older car (in track exhaust mode) would start very loud, then get quieter and stay quieter after a few seconds. The newer car starts very loud, then get quieter almost immediately, then gets louder after a few seconds for about 10 seconds, then quiets again. I wonder if the cold start mixture programming has changed a little bit.

And I just got back from a couple of hundred miles of driving, with a few cold starts, and the exhaust tips are much cleaner than the old car was on the same ride.

So no need for me to paint the tips black....and this is purely my opinion but the blackened tips aren't for me. I only like blackened steak tips.......:-)

Why even bother painting? Just drive it till they're all black!

Does this problem get worse once the car gets some mileage on it? I have 2K thus far, including a 1K trip a few weeks back and mine have never been as black as Lane Change's pic. Not even close
