Ater a long wait, No automatic Z06 for me
Hi all, Im a new member here, this is my first thread.
I'm a long reading member (without singing). I told my self I will not post anythinh untill I get my dream car but sadly it wont happen.
The dream started with the C6, but for some reason I didnt buy it. When GM revealed the 2015 Z06 It was clear to me this is my next car.
I contacted my dealer here in Saudi Arabia for the Z06 and was told that its not avaliable till 2016. I waited for the 2016 Z06 and finally it arrived but with manual transmission option only. The dealer told me we will have the automatic option for 2017. Now I contacted my dealer again and even a dealer in the UAE and both said it is not avaliable for the 2017, and thats not from them its from GM itself. I cant see why, we have the Cadillac cts-v avaliable, the c7 and the grandsport with both options. I even gave GM a call and they confirmed it without telling me why. I even cantacted two of the well know corvette salesmen in the U.S and they didnt help me with buying the automatic Z06 from the U.S. the manuals wont do here, the traffic is a killer.
Oh well, I guess I got no option.
Sorry for the long writing but I wanted to share my story.

Official GM dealers in the US will not sell you a brand new Corvette if they know you will export it. It is against GM policy and they do not want to run the risk of being on the black list.
But if you have your mind set on an automatic that much, why not look for an (almost new) used one? There are 100s of them for sale with hardly any miles on them, so I'm sure you would be able to find the color/options you want? There are some more guys on here from SA, so I cannot imagine that getting it imported and on the road could be that hard?

Are you really sure you want an automatic, that far from the USA, in your Z06?
Here is a photo of my friend's Z06's automatic at 7,700 miles.
I'm not saying it will happen to your automatic, but a lot of people have been having problems with their automatics, with some having buy backs/lemon law, etc). Are you sure you want to take a chance on having a car that might need to have a buy back(or lemon law) and not be a resident of the USA?
Does Saudi Arabia even have "lemon laws"?
At least the Tremec manual transmission has good reliability record.

(The bucket of parts is from a C5 guy, but our trans is much better than the old 6L80E or whatever they might have had). He has one valid point - older cars had converter issues. Mine's an older A8 and no problems ever, so only a few actually had any. But it might take a while to get service parts for an A8 over there, you never know.
You can always settle for the slower retro one, particularly if it's all that's available. I love the A8, but I'd take an M7 over nothing.
If you can't currently drive an M7 because you havne't had them before, it takes an hour to learn, a couple of days to become proficient, at most.

The transmission pan of parts is from a C7 Z06 owner's C7 Z06, not a C5 owner. BTW, I have a C6 Z06(slightly modified) and no 6L80 automatic transmission was offered as an option. When I joined the forum almost 17 years ago, I did have a C5(and a C1 and a C2), thus my users name. At that time the Corvette Forum was owned by Troy and was primarily a C5 forum.

If you'd consider a lower mileage used Z there's a company close to me that specializes in high end, low mileage performance cars. They had 3 Z06s recently but don't know if any were automatic. They have told me they have shipped several cars to overseas buyers. Drop me a PM if interested.

Maybe I am wrong, but that pan does not have the shape of the pan in this C7 A8 post.

Apparently you think you know more than the dealer's technician that took the photo on my friend's Z06 A8 transmission pan after the transmission puked it's guts, that I posted.

If various components get too hot here what would it be like there? I'm guessing that's why GM won't ship autos there. I have to agree with Joe, the manual will likely more reliable with fewer worries of breakdown in the heat. Buy the car and start enjoying it, you're wasting time!

Im not worried about having issues with the A8 because of issues like this warranty exist.
Ahmed_otb Ill DM you soon, I really appreciate your offer and fastgts.
What I dont understand is its avaliable on the CTSV, grandspot and camaro, from my understanding its the same transmission.
I was considering the new C63 coupe but its the same price as the mighty Z06. no brainer.

In the long run, you will be far better off with the M7. With time, the A8 will suffer the same problems with the Park position locking pawl and solenoid and the shift cable plastic grommets that split with thermal aging leaving you stuck in whatever gear position it is in when the grommet splits. Just search the C6 General and Tech sections. JMHO
