New member, but 2016 Z06 dead after 65 miles
I picked up my new 2016 Z06 with 20 miles last Friday and by Saturday at 65 miles the engine had frozen.
I had driven the car home from the dealer on Friday afternoon and then with my son to cars and coffee on Saturday morning and noticed the engine making noise on both trips. My son thought it was the result of the engine being broken in.
Later, my son drove the car and the engine began making noise so he pulled into a parking lot. Apparently, the engine blew up and stalled in a parking lot. When my son tried to restart the vehicle, the main 350 amp fuse blew. On-Star had no power and an attempt to call them from a mobile phone also was unsuccessful as my son was placed on hold.
Fortunately, our dealer service department was open on Saturday and got us a tow truck. Unfortunately, the car had to be dragged onto the rollback. Hopefully, the rear tires are OK.
The car is gray with the z07 package, comp seats, and data recorder. It had a MSRP of $111k. Sadly, I'm experiencing some buyer's remorse right now.

That is an unfortunate experience. Lets hope your dealer is competent enough to do an engine replacement. With such low mileage perhaps you can arrange to get your dealer to find another car from another dealer. You should be meeting with the owner of that dealership and see what he can do for you.

Thousands of the Z06's built with very little in the way of engine failures.
Even though yours was hand-built, parts can fail.
Good luck with the repair and hope it is not extensive.

Oh man, I'm very sorry to hear this. Good thing it is under warranty and you'll get it back in no time. Just to confirm, it wasn't raced or revved to redline at any point, correct?

Wow sorry to hear that. Please keep us posted as to what they find. Curious to see how deep GM will dig into this situation especially since it was a handbuilt motor. I wonder what they do if it was an assembly error and not a component failure? I would think if an assembly error is found, they would have to hold that person accountable as I thought the hand built motor was supposed to reduce the possibility of an engine defect.
Good luck!

I don't know the OP or his son, of course, so it's not personal but when I hear "son took Dad's new Corvette and the engine just blew up", you have to wonder what was going on.
Was he sitting at idle listening to the radio or bouncing off the rev limiter doing donuts? Only he and the OBD2 snapshot will know for sure :-)
Hope it all turns out well. It sucks to have a new purchase fail, but they are mechanical devices (with an excellent warranty), so not unavoidable sometimes.

A8 or M7? There aren't many mechanical reasons the car would need to be "dragged" for a locked or blown engine.
I suppose if it the fuses blew you couldn't release the parking brake or the shifter couldn't move to neutral would be the reason.
Please let know what you find. This is interesting.
Sorry this happened to you but this is way out of the norm.
Good luck.

Why couldn't the car be shifted into neutral?

The OBD2 snapshot should have recorded what was going on at the time the engine started throwing codes, at least I think. As I understand it (and it's a bit hazy) when a trouble code is set a number of other snapshot parameters are also recorded.

For example (if I recall) the rev limit in neutral and park isn't the same as in gear. And generally torque is limited in each gear to what the drive train can handle (even with all the nannies off).
Not saying you cant blow an engine from abuse but it is unlikely you could blow one that wasn't faulty already unless you went through one heck of an effort and intended to.
I agree if it was abused to the point of blowing the engine, the freeze frame and PCM data will leave no doubt. And that fuse being blown or disconnecting the battery probably wont hide that information.

Like I said, I have no idea what happened. I just pointed to the two extremes (abuse vs idling) and pointed out the obvious, that it has to be somewhere in between those two on the spectrum.
I don't claim to know, and wouldn't dare imply (nor did I mean to) any conclusion. I wasn't there, and it's not my car.
I'm probably as eager as everyone else to find out what went wrong - when it locks up the tires (did they try pushing in the clutch I wonder?) sounds more like the transaxle.

Very sorry to hear this. I only have 650 miles on mine and I think I would be climbing up a wall if mine had major problems. I was a basket case even letting the dealer take it out of my sight for the 500 mile oil change. Unfortunately my experience is that there are a number of dealers that don't deserve to work on a Corvette. The good ones are there, but they are not the majority.

that sucks.with only 65 miles on it trade it back in for another 1.thats what I would do.

Sorry to hear of your problems, I would be very upset. I would seriously check into another car if possible.
Unfortunately the warranties are written to provide an opportunity to allow for repair solutions first, but I would still try. Hope all goes well for you.
