Default 2017 Z06 or wait for ZR1?

Should I get 2017 Z06 or wait for ZR1? What do you think the MSRP will be on ZR1?

I think your bigger choice is do you take the ZR1 or wait for the Zora? What about the C9?

Unless you only buy one car every 10 years, don't confuse your purchase by worrying about cars that aren't even publicly announced, let alone anywhere near market. If you're in a climate where you can enjoy a Z in January, buy now. Trade it on a ZR1 or Zora or C8 when that's even possible, if and when you want to.

I realized shortly after delivery of my Z06 that a ZR1 is entirely unnecessary. The Z06 is extremely fast and too fast for the streets. More HP would serve me no purpose other than to inflate my ego. On track, no one passes me so what more could I ask for?

IMO, if you can afford a new ZR1 (they will be at ticker or sticker plus for the early ones), you can afford to buy a 17 Z06 now and trade it on the ZR1 later.

The Z06 is pretty impressive...but more is always better lol. The ZR1 probably won't be available to buy until later next year?? Likely $125-$135k would my guess. You can get 2016 Z06 for 15-20% off...I guess it depends on your patience level and your wallet. I would assume the ZR1 will be similar to a Callaway SC757 in performance but with more aero and better cooling and probably a few other small 'knickknacks"...

If you can deal with over msrp markup on a first year model then go for it, I would never do that unless I was stupid rich. Give it a year to figure out the bugs. I would buy a z06 now. You only live once, live life to the max.

aside from that I had a 17 stripper Z on order and got a fully loaded 21k off msrp 16 with the exact options I wanted with every other option possible. These cars are amazing, fast enough, loud enough. You'll be happy you bought a Z06 and enjoy it until the zr1 comes out

Good advice. Always something new out there. GM has some of us sucked in.

BTW in talking to Les Stanford they have over 50 deposits on the Zora, a car that is not official & best guess as a 19 model.

The ZR will probably be shown in January, which is only a couple months away. So you could wait to see what it's all about. If it trips your trigger, then you could get one - probably on showroom floors next fall.

If the ZR in January doesn't seem to be something to push in that direction, then pick up a Z in the winter time - likely discounted. Heck you could have it sent to Callaway and probably end up with a rig in the same hp range as the ZR likely will be.

C8 mid-engine..........that's what I'm waiting for and not the first year.
BUT, I do have a `15 Z06.

You could wait and like not get a ZR1 at sticker until August of 18. (assume Jan 17 announcement and it is ready as an 18 model with dealer pack for the first 6 months). That means you are not driving a discounted 16 Z06 from Nov 16 to Aug of 18.

Remember Pink Floyd's lyrics: Another day older and another day closer to death....

Go get a discounted 16Z today!

I'd wait for the ZR1 personally. When it gets announced the z06 value will take another hit and the styling looks great. When it comes to big purchases I like to have all the info I can.

Given the spy photos floating around, my guess is that the ZR1 will debut with two different levels of aero. The "standard aero" ZR1 will probably MSRP starting at $100k while the "Extreme Aero" (ACR Extreme equivalent) will have a starting MSRP of $120k.

If you can stomach spending $25-$45k more over your typical ZO6, then go ahead. You only live once. Personally, since I am a mere mortal and only like to spend money to a certain extent, I wouldn't pay $25k-$45k more for a few more carbon pieces, perhaps 50-100 more horsepower, a different front bumper/hood, and obnoxious rear spoilers.

That said, if money is no object to others, I wouldn't blame anyone for forking over the extra cash to own what will more than likely be an ACR killer.

PS - Originally, I was not a fan of the ZR1 rims that we see on the spy photos, but the more I look at them, the more I really like them.

Hopefully the ZR1 will be much more streetable than the Viper ACR. Those here that own one all seem to agree that it is not a car you want to drive on the street.

Your concern in valid. I believe that is why we see two different versions of the ZR1 in the spy photos. We have the version with the smaller spoiler and then the one with the huge spoiler. The huge spoiler version will be the *** rape version. You might want to stay away from that one if you are not looking for an all-out track/race car.

I am not so sure about the ZR1 having more HP than the Z06. We may see a light weight naturally aspirated full areo car....more like the Z28 with the LS7.

The A10 automatic with a 550HP and down 200 lbs from the Z06. No supercharger bla bla.

You probably can get ZR1 aero on the Z07 cars?

My guess - and yeah, it's just a guess - is that it'll have a 2.3l huffer and 700 - 750hp.

Although you may be correct, my bet is on a smaller V8 with twin turbos producing over 750 hp (called the LT5) for the ZR1. For the Zora who knows but I expect that the same engine detuned a bit will be used in it for packaging reasons at least for the first year. The second year we will get a Z?? version of the Zora with a wide body.

Wow..you must know more about the new ZR1 than the rest of us to have reached that conclusion.

Just by way of mag ride the ZR1 will be far more comfortable on the street than an ACR-E. As for hp...I would find it highly unlikely that it'll be less than 707hp and we all know why...no way it'll be the same HP as a Z06...that would be a marketing nightmare and certainly wouldn't make it 'king of the hill' even with weight savings. For people to justify a likely $125k MSRP they will need to step up everything. Straight line performance, track performance, cooling and some form of uniqueness.

Btw, if Callaway can sell a 757hp car on the C7 platform without adverse affects then I'm sure GM would have no issues going over 700hp.
