Where is the Z06 Ring time now that AMG GT-R laps in 7:10
So a new car off the showroom floor claims the rear-wheel drive Ring lap record with a time of 7:10.92. So when will GM let us know how fast the Z06 can do it? Can it beat the AMG?
New cars are getting really fast

7:10 is flying. The new ZL1 was 7:29.60, ZR1 was 7:19.

I think it can and probably did......the problem was the Z06 crash in testing that set them back followed by the temporary speed limits. Tons of rumors out there and sector times that embarrassed some high dollar cars, but unfortunately no official times. Now there's no reason. Would sales suddenly climb? Not sure how they could re-break the current record Z06 sales. Also with a new '18 on the way, all the money will be spent getting that car to sub 7:00. Given the Nismo GTR and Porsche 918 lightning lap times I'm guessing the Z06 was a 7:05 to 7:08 car. Whatever the test car is that's been sighted, my guess is it will break the 7 minute barrier.

cvp is right. They did run it on the ring. On the first day they hit the armco. Apparently the rear stepped out to the left and they couldn't save it. Afterward, they said there must have "been something slippery on the track". Draw your own conclusions. They then converted a Z06 to a Z07 and were there primarily for tuning/testing. The weather sucked (rain almost every day), speeds were limited and they only got a few, full laps under with a dry track. Results were never posted.

It really doesn't matter what the Z06/Z07 does on the ring. The Ring is a tuning tool. Anything else is marketing and bar talk.
Not once have I thought about my Z/28's Ring time nor have I quoted the time to anyone. I don't even know or care about its time.

I love how the op made this "Z06 relevant" by asking where's the ring time lol. Otherwise no reason for it whatsoever.

amg price about $150k,left over Z06 80K.to me not relevant unless you put 70k into a z06 and then try it.apples to oranges.i like the way the amg shifts, very quick and crisp.

The Mercedes's time shows what a front engine car can do. No reason for GM to go mid engine with the Corvette. Just get the C7 to go around the track in 7 minutes 10 seconds. Mercedes just showed GM that it can be done in a car that has an almost identical layout to the Corvette.
Right now, GM is having trouble getting the C7 around the Ring faster than the obsolete C6 has done. They need to fix that little problem before going with another platform.

Those mules we've been seeing won't have cooling trouble around the 'Ring most likely. Everyone will have a Corvette lap time soon enough. Depending on what the power levels are, we'll probably have a decent guess at what the current Z06 could muster assuming cooling was the restricting factor thus far. I do agree that all the trouble (rain, wreck, etc) they had while at the 'Ring previously could alone explain the absence of a time. It costs millions for them to get back there to set a laptime on a car that has been out for years already. Now if they benchmark the newer model against it, maybe we get times for both cars.
