Default GT seat thigh bolster trimming recommendation

Every time I got into the car I would get aggravated at the bolsters digging into my thighs so took the seat out, bottom cover loose and trimmed the bolsters a bit.
The hardest part was removing the seat – pulling the switch cover, seat belt and wiring connections.
The seat's leather cover come right off.
Once the foam is trimmed the cover goes right back on and you can barely notice any sagging where the foam was trimmed.
This is a fairly simple job and well worth the time and effort….I would recommend doing to anyone who has this issue.

Good idea, and you can carve up the turkey with that thing when you're done!

If it starts to sag, maybe try filling the newly-created void with some soft padding.

Not that many people have a problem with the seat bolsters. When you sell/trade the car will you explain to prospective buyers the seat has been modified and may not fit like other seats? If I was purchasing the car I would want to know I would have to pop for new seat foam to get the seat back to the way it is supposed to be. It is very frustrating to buy a car and then find out after the purchase the car has been cobbed up.

I have actually done this with a motorcycle seat. Each person is different and new seat foam is not that expensive when you think about your long term comfort.

It's much easier to shave off a thin layer and drill holes in the foam to soften it up. There are a number of complaints about the firm seat bolsters and this mod has worked for them The size and number of the holes determines how soft the mod ends up. If you mess up you can always order another seat cushion foam.

Great post, thank you.
Can you show us a shot of how the cover fits the bolster, after the trimming?

I'll be honest, the side bolsters are sometimes very annoying to me also - I don't think I would go as far as trimming them or anything and I'm learning to live with it, but this is definitely the first car where the seat has been a little less comfortable than I would like.

I'm 6'4 mind you which probably doesn't help!

Default After Foam Trim Picture

You can see a bit of sag on the bolsters ... I may add some very soft foam later but the feel is so much better it doesn't matter to me and I don't look at the bottom of the seat when I'm driving the car anyway.

I usually keep my cars 8-10 years and this was the most uncomfortable seat I have ever had...my wife's CTS-V's Recaro seats are much better.
