Differential Ring and Pinion Backlash
I had a whine in the differential on my 2016 A8 Corvette and the dealer replaced it. Now it doesn't whine but has considerable slop in the ring and pinion. When I'm going between 25-30 in town and let off the gas and then accelerate you can feel and hear a clunk. It also does it at higher speeds in the 40s but not as bad. I also noticed that when all the oils are warm and thin I get more of a clunk from drive to reverse and back to drive. Has anybody else notice this with their car? I don't know if the dealer would replace the differential based on this or what limits are acceptable. If I lay a yardstick by the tire and look down at the edges of the body to the yardstick I can grab the tire and rock the car back and forth 1-1/2 to 1-3/4" in park.
