Biggest Event In Corvette History On Track
Everyone’s seen the spy photos, heard the rumors, witnessed the growth of the Bowling Green plant, and seen the uncovered documents straight from GM. Its true–Corvette is on the cusp of something huge.
And, now, there’s yet another reason for us to get excited– a complete close-down of Bowling Green and a halt to vehicle production for up to four months. Sure, that may not sound like good news, but we think it definitely is. Just like the other recent announcements from Chevy, this is just another step in the right direction.
It seems this has been planned for a while, too, as Corvette inventory across the U.S. is pretty high at the moment. For the 2017 model year, the last time to order is April 13th, and the last day of production is June 2nd. So get your orders in!
So what does this mean?… According to CorvetteBlogger, a plant spokesperson said that when the plant resumes production following the closure, Chevrolet will begin to build the 2018 model year. Could it be what we’ve all been waiting for? Will it be a Corvette or a Cadillac? One thing’s for sure, its closer than it has ever been before.

Thanks for sharing, NemesisC5.
You've restored my hope in something BIG coming for the Corvette.

More speculation
the low winged version will be the Z06, and the tall wing will be the Z07, hopefully with same suspension as the ZL1 1LE, which is a pretty terrible name btw.

Love it!! Well done GM. This is the track rat model. All the accessories serve a purpose. Don't buy it if you want to go to dinner or to a mall. The Viper ACR has the front dive planes and huge rear wing as well, and it looks even more outrageous. I suppose real "track" models tend to look a certain way.

It doesn't take a 4 month shutdown to retool for the changes visible on the two winged mules. Moreover, a 4 month shutdown is very expensive - and sales of those two models won't pay for that. I don't think it would be speculation to infer that they are retooling for a substantially different vehicle. Since the two winged mules are obviously the same C7 front engined platform, the retool is probably for an additional platform, though not in huge numbers, since the old platform will share the same production line. But, who knows, all that may turn out to be just musings of some old fart.

Camaro ZL1 (not the ZL1 1LE) is also getting performance ratio 10 spd. A10 first too. I have one on order to compliment my C7 Z06. Maybe the Camaro is the new testing vehicle before determining suitability for Corvette models?

Driving around town, I agree with you. But trying to run 160 through turns 1 and 2 at AutoClub Speedway (look at the videos around here and you see 130-135 through there) and you will be darned glad you have it.
So it is a tool for a certain use.

I believe if you scale it up to 13 miles, the lap improvement is huge. As fast a ZR1 on Nurburgring. More weight but better aero. The Camaro has caught up to the Corvette.
I suspect the Corvette team will make a higher downforce model soon to distance itself form the Camaro once more.

That is quicker than the 4 door sedan with a 505 HP 2.9L V6 that ran Nurburgring in 7:32 without a wing, on skinny 245/285 Pirelli 3-season high performance tires.

Sounds very logical to me. I laugh at some of the people that have no concept of how a business works. Like the mustang guys think its the greatest thing because it sells a ton of cars (a lot are fleet) and the truth is, it's not about how many you can sell its about how much each car can make. Then you can invest that profit in other projects.

The 640 HP 6.2L ZL1 turned in a very fast time at the Ring. A 7.29:60 on wide 285/305 Goodyear F1 summer only tires developed for the ZL1.
