Track Report: Cooling tested 2017 vs 2016 vs 2015

It might also be due to other factor like the high price we pay the Z06 in our country (about 50% increase at least...) and also very limited number of vehicles sold.
Not my first Corvette either...
But that was for sure much appreciated! I do trust GM and with such action will continue to do so.

GREAT review my friend, really glad things are working out for you on the car!! Can't wait to get my 17 back out on the track, I too have found the temps to be in check on my two trips to the road course at Fontana...
I've got slicks on the way this week, and will be looking to try them out very soon.
I also had no issues with temps at a run way shoot last week, even when I "hot lapped the car 5 times in 90 degree Arizona heat!!
Congrats AGAIN!!

Thanks Joel. Too bad your tires didn't make in time for this track day. See you at the next track day

Unfortunately, there are no changes except the intercooler bricks and lid on the A8. The manual trans cars have always been able to limp along, and run below the limp mode threshold with the added radiator.

Okay! Just to keep it simple! ;)
Slush boxes have been said to be in the big boy Vette's at Mazda, so how about a 650, and 750, horsepower Ring run with them! Easy!? Thanks!

Assuming all 2015s are equal and the same for 2016s, then the difference in being able to run for a full run session is due to driving style. Meaning if you know how to avoid overheating the car in high ambient temps and then drive using the torque curve versus always shifting at 6500 rpm, most of us can even get an A8 to last.
Do I wish it was otherwise; of course. But still the car is fast enough to dust off pretty much everything else in my run group.

Good to here. We were there at Spring Mtn. last weekend parked behind you guys. We just got a new '17 Z06 but it only has 200 miles on it, so we were driving our GT4. The Z06s were definitely faster than our GT4. But for comparison, our GT4 never exceeded 240F for oil temp.

GT4 is an excellent machine. I have personally considered it last year but I don't pay markup for anything and it was hard to get. Z06 platform is hard to beat. I like GT4 reliability in comparison to GT3 but I Would own either one.

Great review! I read that all 2017 Corvettes received cooling improvements for that year.

very cool and congrats on the new Z06.

Looking back at the data. Both the 2015 A8 and 2016 Z06 coolant temp climbed pass 240F on the second lap while the 2017 didn't see 240F even after 8 laps with holding 2nd gear for long periods in that session. All three of us were running lap times within 0.3 sec of each other.

I am a believer in the aux radiator. GM said its good for 15 degrees. In the earlier sessions I was running 3rd gear in the whole technical sector and managed 225F at the end of 8 laps while my friends Z06's reached 260F after 4 or 5 laps. That's 35F degrees difference and I don't know if this is all aux radiator. My guess is that the aux radiator really slows down temps climbing by taking the shock out of the hot coolant and then it allows the primary radiator to be a lot more effective.

Tuning?
Hot SC effectively injects heat throughout!

Our Aux rad on the stage two is worth a solid 20, we've seen upwards of 22-24.
15* for the smaller GM unit is absolutely in line with what that size heat exchanger can reject.

What are your thoughts on oil temps? We know cooler is better but is the high end of acceptable?

I know that my 86 C4 would start flashing the engine oil temperature light when oil temp exceeded about 290.
My C5Z didn't set any warnings when oil temp hit 319. With a DRM Ron Davis Racing Radiator with built in engine oil cooler I was able to get the C5Z oil temp to 230 and coolant temps down to 200 while running the stock thermostat.
My C6Z would run all day at 259 to 260 deg oil temp even in high 90s temps.
