2015 or 2016 Z06 vs. waiting for new C8
Hi,
I've never owned a Vette and am looking to get a Z06. Going to be going to Livernois Motorsports in Detroit to get it mod'ed up.
I know the new C8 is going to be coming out...but it seems to me that getting a used 2015 or 2016 and putting the extra money into the modifications could result in a higher performance car than simply waiting and buying a 2018 C8
And then there is pure cost. I'm ok with 75-90 grand...I'm not ok with 100K plus
I'm a total newbie at this...
Any thoughts?
Thanks

You can play the waiting game forever and in the meantime life is passing you by. I first looked at Corvettes 8 years ago and should have bought myself a C5 Z06 that i wanted. The c7 came out in 14, i dont think the c8 will be out before 2019 as a 2020 model.
your call. I thought id be saving so much money and looked all around for used 15 and 16 Z's. I wanted a 7 speed 3LZ in long beach red, couldnt find anything and bought '17 new with a nice discount.

The current C7 Z06 rocks! You will not be disappointed. Exhaust change, pulley swap, headers, change the air box and get a good tune, and wham! You've got a harder pulling, more HP street machine. As someone said earlier, while your waiting, life is passing you by.
Ultimately though, your call. Either way, be safe!

That's right. That's the beauty of these supercars coming out these days. They have plenty of HP/handling/looks already to keep you going a long time.
Except if they come out with something that looks allot better than what's out there now then all bets are off!

Never wait. I mean don't buy an iPhone when the new one is coming out next week but other than that never wait. Pick up a 15 which already took a good depreciation hit and drive the ***** off it. You shouldn't get the first year C8 anyway because the good one always comes out the second year. Pick up 15...drive it...pick up 20 down the line.

I say dive in now. Price is good, bugs are worked out, mods are available. It takes to long for GM to brings cars to market.
Also what hold out for a C8 Z06 in 2020 or a C8 ZR1 in 2022.

The first question you need to answer is; What do you want to do with the car?
Street Cruising you don't need any power mods as there isn't any place where you can wring out a stock Z06 without LEOs coming from all directions with guns drawn and fire in their eyes. They and the public take a dim view of people running 150+ on the streets and highways. Power mods for street cruising just mean you push the gas pedal less to get the same performance as your brain limits the performance not the engine.
Of course if you want to sit at a cruise in and talk about all the stuff you had done to the engine and then wing the throttle a couple of times to prove you did it that is a different story.
Drag Racing power mods will get you lower ETs. However, if you are bracket racing adding power doesn't do much since consistency is the name of the game.
Road Course. Reliability mods help. Get the coolant and oil temps down during 20 minute sessions. Add PS Cooling Duct, Secondary Radiator to M7 cars, Essex AP Racing Brake kit for reliable lower cost stopping power. Once you have maxed out your cornering ability then power mods get you to even lower lap times.

As many have already said, "Don't wait" Life is too short and we don't know just how short.

You could also wait for the iPhone 12 or waiting for the 2020 Mustang ...Or whatever the future may have...
Or you get a fantastic car now.It looks sexy, handles great, has plenty of tech and goes like hell.

I decided to wait. The day I went in to place my order for a 2017 Z06, there was a guy taking delivery of one. It truly sank in and made me realize how much I don't fit in with this car's demographic. I felt disgusted and left.
Hopefully the ZR1 will cater to a different audience.

In 3 years when the C8s start coming out then you might consider waiting. For now get the C7. You don't want the first year of a new model anyway.

C'mon now, don't be bashful about your feelings. You can tell us all about it. We're a very sensitive demographic. 😀

Get a used Z then mod it all you want....when your done sell it, then buy the C8. I do this all the time...it's fun and you waste lots of cash...but in the end very satisfying.
