Tadge Juechter Says No Mid-Engine Corvette Zora/ZR1 Planned
#81
I talked to a BIG Chevrolet exec at Bloomington Gold last year and asked him about the mid engined Corvette this was his response. Right now we are selling the C7 I sure hope everyone stays interested in what we are selling now and don't get distracted by our future product. So what does that say?

That's VERY unlikely (cancelling the mid engine car), no matter what happens with C7 sales. GM has plowed over $800 million into Bowling Green in the last 2 years, to not use all that additional space would be crazy. A GM exec saying we need to sell "current" product is basically the only thing he CAN say. The C7 has already been a rousing success, with the buzz/unveiling/intro of the ZR1/whatever they call it months away, the line is clearly very viable.

It says that if he hyped a future car, why wouldn't people wait for the C8, rather than buy C7s?

Exactly. In business school this is called The Osborne Effect. Osborne was a company that made some of the earliest portable PCs and it was quite successful. Then the CEO talked up how great the Osborne 2 was going to be. Customers instantly stopped buying the Osborne 1 and because he had talked about it too early, the sales slowdown killed the company.

Wtf!?
Corvette Chief Engineer Tadge Juechter flat-out denied reports of an upcoming mid-engine Corvette during a recent interview on Autoline After Hours.

I bet Cadillac gets the mid engine first and its built in the vette plant alongside the
progression of the C7 to the C8. Look at who is winning at Daytona and Sebring,
GM is pumping a ton of dough into the Cadillac division, a halo sports car for
Cadillac would really get them incredible PR and prestige. And then in a few years if the mid engine goes over then transition it into a Corvette but if the mid engine thing flops then all it is is a deleted model in Caddys lineup and not the loss of Chevy's halo car.

That's not happening. The mid engined mule definitely is based on the Corvette body panels. You can clearly see the body panel overlays from the A pillar on. And GM has already trademarked the Zora name. It will be a Corvette first than possibly a tamed GT version for Cadillac if at all.

This
The mid-engine Corvette has been the automotive version of Bigfoot/Nessie for 5 decades now. To squander the marketing potential of this event by giving Cadillac the ME car first would go down in history as one of the worst F Ups of all time. Cadillac needs to figure out how to MARKET it's existing lineup....they surely don't have time to enter the fray against Ferrari/Lamborghini/McLaren/etc...

New Ford GT Driving Impressions
It handles and rides very well and has a truly innovative suspension design, but drivers claim that it is too sharp in chassis response to feel comfortable in for long drives - it is not a cross-country vehicle. It has next to no storage space.
It also does not hold up well in comparisons with the Ferrari 488, which costs about half as much, is much more comfortable and has a much better interior....in fact the C7 Corvette has a better interior.
They will sell all they can make, but I doubt you'll see many on the road. Most of them will be used as expensive garage sculptures.

My John Deere twin-cylinder lawn tractor sounds like it has bigger cajones than any V-6 I have ever heard. The only 6-cylinder engines that sound like something that should be in a race car are in-line, (think Jaguar Type D or Aston-Martin DB-1).
That is what I meant. I know that some of my insights are hard to comprehend, but if you read enough of my posts, you may get the hang of it eventually.
