I talked to a BIG Chevrolet exec at Bloomington Gold last year and asked him about the mid engined Corvette this was his response. Right now we are selling the C7 I sure hope everyone stays interested in what we are selling now and don't get distracted by our future product. So what does that say?

That's if C7 sales slow the midengine project (whatever it is) has a good chance of getting publicly cancelled, to protect things making money now.

^^^^

That's VERY unlikely (cancelling the mid engine car), no matter what happens with C7 sales. GM has plowed over $800 million into Bowling Green in the last 2 years, to not use all that additional space would be crazy. A GM exec saying we need to sell "current" product is basically the only thing he CAN say. The C7 has already been a rousing success, with the buzz/unveiling/intro of the ZR1/whatever they call it months away, the line is clearly very viable.

It says that if he hyped a future car, why wouldn't people wait for the C8, rather than buy C7s?

Exactly. In business school this is called The Osborne Effect. Osborne was a company that made some of the earliest portable PCs and it was quite successful. Then the CEO talked up how great the Osborne 2 was going to be. Customers instantly stopped buying the Osborne 1 and because he had talked about it too early, the sales slowdown killed the company.
