Default C8 guesses?

Hey fellas! Hope everyone had a safe and Happy new year...

Anyways im finally at a point in life where i can afford a current generation corvette. I know the C6 lasted from 2005-2014 so was basically 9 years long... I had a 2008 C6.

I was thinking of getting a c7 now at the age of almost 42 or waiting till im 45 which will be in 2019. Dont know whether to get a c7 or continue saving and try to hold off for a C8... If a C8 probably wont debut till 2021 or so i think id like a c7 now in the prime of its life.

1) Guess the short of it is when would you (guess) a C8 will debut?

2) How much of a upgrade is the C7 from the C6?

My guess is that the C8 will debut in 2022.

The C7 is a major upgrade from the C6 as we are told that only 2 parts were carried over from the C6 to the C7 and both were very minor parts.

If you want a C7, I would hold off until you hear about the changes- as 2017 may be time for a "refresh" and maybe an upgrade in hp. You will hear about the upcoming changes at the Bash which takes place in April.

#1. Who knows...2019-2020
#2. Difference between night and day.
I had a '09 with Z51 and really liked that car, put 80,000 miles on it. Ordered a '15 and could not be more pleased, I've had the car 10 months now and it has been the best car I have ever owned. Only been in the shop for oil changes, something my '09 did monthly was visit the shop for something, as have all of my former cars. I got a 2lt interior trim and it is very nice, plenty of standard features along with the upgrades make the car far superior than the C6 and I love the styling, so as I said, night and day.

Buy the c7. When the c8 hits the road it will be a minor change in car. Similar to the c5 and c6... Basically the same car with different cosmetics. The c8 won't be some huge redesign. Buy the c7 and enjoy every minute!

Buy now if your money is right and enjoy it. Who knows what the future holds for the Corvette or you in 3 years. No way would I wait.

Buy the C7 now (or as mentioned above wait to see what the '17 brings and decide which one you want), and enjoy it for a few years. You can always decide to get a C8 if it turns out to be even better than the C7.

Well, let's see. Rumors on this forum include the C8 will be a mid-engine design that will be released as early as 2018, but will cost more than the current Z-06 and co-exist with the C7. Another has the C8 being released somewhere around 2022-2023. It will be a V8 or a V6.
The C7 will get an upgrade next year or it won't.
You can wait until April of this year to see what happens, of course if there are no upgrades, the current C7 is being heavily discounted right now, but that might change in spring when Corvette prices usually escalate due to the demand that occurs that time of year. Then again, demand may not increase and discounts will continue.
I just went through this. I got a headache so I took two Advil and bought a C7. Headache is gone.

We are still years from the C8. i think we will see 6 or 7 MODEL years. right now we are on 2016 model year which is number 3. I couldn't wait another 3 years for a car.

buy now, and maybe trade in 2 years after the c8 comes out.

C6 from 2005 to 2013 so my guess is C8 2021~2022.
No idea on improvements, but first year & to some extent second year there will be no or very little discounts due to demand just like the C7 and who knows the price by then.

Bottom line you have the funds now get a 2016 or wait till the 2017 specs are out and order one. As stated we don't know what the future holds.

If you can afford the car now, you can afford to trade your C7 in on a C8 when they come out. Get one. I bought my first Corvette at 44. First car I didn't have any buyers remorse over, although taking that much money out of the bank was spooky. Only thing that sucks about this purchase is it's winter and I can't drive it right now.

The existing car is plenty bad-***, but I agree with perhaps waiting till the 17 specs are out. So far the C7 seems to be following the C6 pattern which means more HP in 17 just like the 30-36 hp bump for m.y. 2008. My guess is borrowing the tweaks from the new Camaro LT1 with some additional some ECM and intake tweaks to get an advertised 485 hp. I think this number is possible while keeping or even improving the gas mileage a little. Hell, they could get another 1 mpg out of it by making AFM a little more aggressive.

Whatever you do it would probably be in your best interests to wait until announcements are made at the bash. You may very well be happy you waited to order the 2017 model.

Get the C7 now! It's a great car! My guess is 2019 for the C8. Enjoy the C7 for a few years and then trade it in for the C8.

No one outside of GM, NO ONE, knows anything about the C8. Not what it will look like, not whether it will be mid-engine or remain front-engine, not how much it will cost, not whether it will outperform the C7 or be strangled by new fuel economy standards or be all electric. Not even if there will be a C8. And especially not when it will be available. All anyone can do is speculate, which is a fancy word for guess.

There will always be something new coming. Wondering what it will be, and when it will be available, leads to paralysis by analysis. Make your decision based on what's available today.

There are a lot people outside GM who know a lot about C8 development. The OEMs bring in the suppliers pretty early in the development process these days. OEMs just don't have the resources and expertise/experience to development and engineer many of the required components.

The supply base employees are held to the same level of secrecy as the OEM employees. However, in my experience information leaks from suppliers earlier and more often than from the OEMs.

There's an old commercial to the effect of "If I could do it all over again, I'dve gotten me that Harley Davidson..."

If you like the C7, and have the ability to acquire one, then do it.
It's highly unlikely you would regret it.
However many years from now, it'll be paid for, and you'll probably have some savings usable on whatever generation is out.

10 years from now, something could have happened, and the combination of money and availability may not be there...you passed on the opportunity for a C7, life happens, and the C8 is not obtainable. (ala the quoted commercial)

I bought my C5 because the money and opportunity came together at the same time, and I didn't know if it would ever happen again. (I was 35 at the time)

14 years later, in part due to a number of small investments I made about the same time I bought the C5, I was able to buy a C7. Had those small investments tanked instead of grown significantly, might not have been able to do it a second time.

Quick Reply: C8 guesses?
