The First Ever Photos of the Mid-Engine Corvette

Not sure what to think, but definitely interesting find! Mid engine C8 vette or maybe a more hardcore track version front engine C7, or maybe something else altogether?
I haven't been following the Camaro Z28 stuff but is there any info on whether the camo'd car that was lapping the Ring will have a powerplant other than an LT1 or LT4? If yes then perhaps that's what will be under this car's hood (whether front or rear)

Maybe it has round taillights?!

Who thought Ford would ever compete in the space between $200 and $400K? All 400 of the new Ford GTs are reported spoken for at somewhere around $400K, and the Ford GT from the mid-2000s is now commanding prices $100K more than their original MSRP.

Well that's the thing, the Ford GT of the mid 2000's sold for ~$120k. They're now worth $300k just because of their rarity. This is the whole reason the new GT is being sold for $400k. I'd bet 95% most the new owners (I applied) are gonna pretty much park their cars in the garage to sell them for $600k in a couple years. A vette simply can't pull that.

Say what you will but the evidence suggest, GM is thinking about a mid-engine car (maybe not a Corvette?) more seriously than they have in a long time.

It appears to me this mid engine design was planned along side the C7 from the get go. The C7 coupe already has mid engine styling. I'm betting this was done to ease buyers into the look of the C8 all along and the mid engine design was already approved before C7s launch.

My WAG is that they'll do something to regain LeMans bragging rights, which means mid-engine, and a forced-induction V6 in today's world. Whether it's actually a "Corvette" or not is anyone's guess, but I suspect they'll try to tie it to the branding somehow as in a special "uber" edition. After all, it's GM's only halo high-performance marque.

I'm more inclined to think this is a ZR1 being tested given how similar the body shapes are to the C7. A Mid engine design is going to lose some length in the front of the car.

TBH I don't personally see the mid-engine resemblance from the grainy shots either. I thought maybe it was just me but seems like others are thinking the same thing.
What we do know is that this could be a new mid-engine vette - or it could not be.

THIS should have been the C7.
Make the C8 mid-engine, TT V8 LTx, DCT, and AWD and I'm in.
Until then, I'll keep my C6 and my 2016 Camaro SS with their manual transmissions,
because the C7 did not get the GM funding to make it a true upgrade from my C6.

The amount of people in here who seem to think this will be the new Corvette is astounding.

It'll be interesting to see what this will end up being. I don't think the car in the picture is mid engined.
I also don't think it'll be a "hardcore" track version to be completely honest. I'm guessing something along the lines of a ZR1 (still looks front-mid engined, plus it has the widebody). Who knows, but it's something to look forward to.

I used my elite photoshop skillz to zoom in and enhance the photo to see what we've actually got here:
Yep, looks like a mid engine vette to me!

Ford did it with the GT, what makes Chevy so different. While I'd love to se this as 100k car it's probably not going to be.
