Mid-Engine Corvette - Maybe Not?

Difference is you pay more for options, of course your are offered more options, as you go up the line. If Caddy does get the mid-engine you will pay more, much more for the Caddy nameplate, rather than the Chevrolet nameplate. But you will get more creature comforts in the Caddy because it is a Caddy.

There will probably be two models as before. The Caddy variant will have softer, wider seats, Bang & Olufsen sound system, a softer ride and only come with GM's 10 speed auto trans!

Well, if it's going to be a Caddy, I hope they ditch that miserable, pos CUE system.

GM has announced the 2017 Daytona Prototype will be a Cadillac, and that the Corvette DP is no more.
How sure can we be the mid-engine new GM vehicle is a Corvette and not a Cadillac.
I thought from early on the mid-engine car would be a Cadillac for multiple reasons, and I think this further supports my theory: it will allow it to be priced much higher and sold in much lower volumes than it would as a Corvette.

I'd rather GM work on making the C7 Vette better instead of making a mid-engine one. It's already got nearly perfect 50/50 balance - what's going to be gained by going mid-engine?

The XLR failed because it looked like Ike a Corvette with all of the round edges chopped off, and had an automatic transmission.
Now all Caddies look like this.
If they make it look like a CTS, or STS, or whatever the hell they call their bricks on wheels vehicles now, it will fail again. Give it some sexy lines and a manual transmission option, in addition to great performance, and people will line up, no matter which nameplate it gets.

Just posted, I think you will see future Corvettes as Hybrids or V-6 Turbos/Supercharged. I think the V-8 is on the way out, because of its weight, gas consumption, and cost.

What it really needs is AWD. Jaguar has shown it can be done in a similar size car with similar HP.

That is best done with a double overhead cam, 4 valve per cylinder, turbo charged V6 (uses some of the 30+% wasted energy that goes out the exhaust.). As GM said when they introduced the LT1, a low profile pushrod engine is the only way they could get it under a low Vette hood! That double overhead cam V6 would stick through the hood of a front engine Vette! With 4 per cylinder, the valves can be smaller for higher rpm capability and higher flow velocity at low rpms. A small cid engine provides lower friction, higher mpg until you put your foot to the floor. For a passenger car that is not often and it's not required for the EPA drive cycle that defines mpg values.
Also it's more than front/rear weight distribution, expect the mid engine will have ~45/55 BUT the weight will be in the center (low polar moment of inertia) for max "g" force in turns without under-oversteer.
Fun to speculate, we'll see.

How do you figure better dealer experience? Every dealer I know of in our area carries Buick and or Chevy plus trucks along with Caddy.

Tadge stated that they can not do AWD in the current car. Engine is mounted too low to make it work. A mid engine would solve this problem.
