Default Why the mid-engine car is in the Corvette family....

I was thinking: We all saw the winter testing photos with the ZR1/Z06 Club Sport/Whatever with what is obviously a mid-engine car (with C7 doors and roof it looks like). So...I assume (you know what happens then) that Corvette engineers would be doing the work on both cars. Bingo, it's a mid-engine Corvette (but NOT a C8). Fancy thinking, huh.

OR

GM has plowed over $800MILLION into Bowling Green lately, so maybe the ME car IS a Cadillac and will be made in Bowling Green, so it's Corvette/Caddy engineers freezing their butts off.

OR

It was Professor Plum in the library with the candlestick....

Speculatin' sure is fun!

I HIGHLY doubt it's a Caddie, though I'd love to see a mid engine Caddy Exotic AFTER the Corvette version.

corvette has history w mid engine race cars & Caddy is new to sports cars. Doesn't make sense to be a Caddy now. Later yes

Was coming back from ordering some fence and passed a house with one of those Cadillac Corvette posers in the driveway. There was a reason that car did not sell. The Corvette looked well styled. The Cadillac looked odd. New Cadillacs look odd too. Until the styling department at GM gets their cool hats out of storage, history will repeat and repeat and repeat. And if GM can't train all the Chevy dealer service techs to work on a Corvette, how will they ever add the Cadillac techs to the pool.

But the biggest problem is ..... uncle told me that when he installed a fan belt on a Cadillac it cost twice what the price was to put it on a Chevy. Nice profit. Old urban legend, but Corvette sells because it is cost effective.

If the new Corvette has nice styling, room for luggage, room for me, room for the dogs, and is cost effective with some leather colored interiors .... we'll want one. Pat

I guess I'm the only one who thinks it'll be a Buick.

^^^^ Haha - good one!
Guess it'll be called a Skylark?

But in reality - to have the sales volume to be a success - I think the new ME must be a Chevy.
And this means GM will have to create a new slot above the Corvette.
An all new "Zora" dream car for the aging boomers.
Heck - who else has $150K to spend on an asset they know will diminish $20 in value every day....
You can do the math - & it's sad but true.
The Zora is still gonna be a mass produced depreciating Chevy.

For the last few years, I was thinking it would be a Caddy, just because I don't see the General making all Corvette mid-engine. But now, my gut says it will be a Vette, just super-low production. And you're right — speculatin' sure is fun!

Ya I guess I just don't get how it could be a Caddie. I mean even the Holden Ute mule 2yrs ago had the C7 roof and cabin, now 2yrs later this further developed mule still has the same roof, cabin but this time even includes C7 doors. I get sharing parts bins, but that would be such a bad idea to use that much from an existing model....look at the XLR, zero exterior similarities/styling with the Corvette let alone actual parts; ok minus the rubber exterior door switch; and people still called BS on the whole thing by saying it's "just a Corvette with a Caddie badge on it."

With that said I'm gonna "go on record" and say it's a new Corvette model. So would that make it a C7ME, or C1ME since it's a new generation platform?

Someone needs to tell this guy that NO mid-engine cars have "a perfect 50/50 weight distribution". The C7 is so close to that now as to not even bother discussing. Mid-engine cars tend to be in the 40/60 range.

Of course, there's A LOT more to making a supercar than weight distribution. The turn-in with my Z is markedly better than my McLaren, which can be partially attributed to weight distribution. However, that's the only place where the vette has an edge. The chassis are miles apart. More than anything, this is where I'm hoping the MR vette can make significant progress...

In actuality, it makes far more sense now for the mid-engine car to be a Cadillac.
GM's all new for 2017 Daytona prototype race car (the mid-engine one as opposed to the GT class front engine C7), which since inception has been a Corvette, is now a Cadillac.

Chevrolet could lose the Corvette and it wouldn't adversely affect sales of the remaining Chevy lineup.

Cadillac seriously needs a "prestige" car in their lineup to boost the Cadillac's sales numbers of their cars/SUV's.

This is true about the mid-engine. It will be a "stand-alone" car. I expect the C7 to run until 2019, 2020 or 2021.

^^^^^

Superformance owns the rights to the "GT40" name, not Ford.
