Default C8 Zora update

The new April Car & Driver, pg. 53, has a C8 Zora update. Coming mid 18 as a 19. I know there are other threads on Zora deposits but nothing recently. Does anybody know if any of our sanctioned dealers are taking a deposit yet? Thank you in advance.
p.s. The update is calling the C8 a mid engine. There are other threads here that say the C8 and the mid engine vette are 2 different animals?

The folks doing that are corvette traditionalist that don't want to live in reality. The C8 will be ALL different. A new formula targeting the next up coming generation of buyers. The C7 will live on for 3 more years (maybe 4), but it will be THE last front engine corvette.

The C8 will be a rear mid-engine. The people saying otherwise are all corvette traditionalists. The C7 brought in younger buyers and got young people thinking about Corvettes again. The C8 will be more in that direction.

A little clarity please Steven. The deposit is for what? A C8, A Zora....maybe they are the same? I can't get a straight answer.

When I purchased my Z51, January of 2016, Mike Furman already had deposits for a ME Corvette.

I agree with you on the C7 living on for three or four years, but not on the comment about the last front engine Corvette. It's no secret that GM is targeting Porsche and will soon be following the Porsche marketing model. There will be multiple versions of at least two platforms. GM will continue to market a front engine model as long as the analysts predict a profit and as long as the model continues to deliver a profit.
At the end of the day, it isn't about "tradition" at all. It's all about $$$$$$. The same factor will dictate how long the C7 lives on. As soon as it's a financial loser, it will be put out to pasture.

Actually got an email from Mike Furman only a few minutes ago...in which he states:

~Accepting 100% refundable deposits on the proposed Corvette with Mid Engine (code name Zora).
Call 301 212 4420 to discuss further.

All deposits are time stamped and date coded and go in line.

I made my MR vette deposits exactly three years ago. That has me #1 (local dealer) and #3 (national dealer). I also have a deposit on an MR Caddy in the event the car isn't a Chevy (which isn't likely to happen) and a McLaren 720S spider, which is at least two years out.

Sounds like many promising additions to the collection. The '18 911 GT3 should be a nice evolution of the marque; available manual transmission, too!
Enjoy!!

I feel bad for the folks who paid the crazy premium for the 911R. Those owners will more than likely take a huge hit. PDK 991.1's may take a significant hit too.

If money were no object, I can't think of any other car I would rather own than a manual 991 GT3 RS.

110% incorrect. The mid-engine is not a replacement, only a supplement. Bandwidth...it's been repeated time and again. Porsche 911 has 21 different variations. You don't sell 100k front engine Corvettes in 3 yrs then say, "alright guys, scratch that". You don't eliminate success, you build upon it.

C7 frame is modular, it'll be another platform that shares from one core architecture. Right now Corvette goes from 55k to 100k, the mid-engine is how you make the Corvette go 55k-150k, or even higher.

Bandwidth....Tadge's favorite word

Mike at Crisswell is. Got a E mail stating so. 100% refundable also. I'm sure any dealer will be happy to hold your money without any promises.

The mid engine car is an additional Corvette model and not a replacement for the RWD original Corvette. The RWD Corvette is due to be replaced by another Front engine RWD model (C7 replacement) in the 2021-22 model year time frame. Don't expect the mid engine car to start any lower than $125-50K and this is why it will be an additional lower volume higher $ car to compete with the NSX and added to the stable but not replacing anything.

People need to listen to marketing concepts and quit fantasizing about some non-existent world in which the Corvette family survives economically solely as a mid-engine line of sports cars. There is no model which remotely predicts anything but demise for a Corvette family that ignores the Corvette traditional market. The 911 survives because Porsche understands the market segment that will support the 911.

The GM mid-engine is going to be an affordable ME super car with bragging rights for the GM line. It will not replace the traditional Corvette platform, it will supplement it and there is still a chance that it might actually be part of the Cadillac performance family, not the Chevrolet performance family. Time will tell. But, if the affordable traditional Corvette fun car/road trip car disappears, so does the Corvette line.

Good points and I hope you are correct.
