Default Trickle charge battery ALL Winter?

How many of you actually trickle charge your batter all Winter long? The technician/sales rep at Inter State told me that it's what I should be doing when storing my car...

He's absolutely right. Put on a good trickle charger and leave it be until the spring.

GM Brass at the Birthday Bash in Bowling Green mentioned this Spring that you have to if the Vette sits more than 3 weeks as the Computers draw too much and will drain the battery and memory.

I found the Schumacker at WalMart one of the best. Reasonable price also. I have 3 Schumackers and 1 Battery Tender.

Yup trickle chargers on all three till spring!

Just make sure they are auto shut off and turn on. Come Spring when you start the car for the first time, put your accelerator to the floor and turn over the engine. The computer will not allow the car to start and the motor just turns over and gets oil flowing. Then start your car as normal and it will purrrrrr. This trick works for all GM vehicles but not the diesels trucks.

No charger used at all, disconnect negative battery cable and thats it - this is the correct way to winterize your car battery.

Now if security is an issue and you feel you need the alarm on that is a different story. You will then need to ensure the battery is charged.

I have no electrical outlets where I park for the winter, so the battery moves into the den with a CDN Tire charger (auto on/off). Starts like a charm in spring.

C6 only? Or the C5 has the feature as well?

Got the BMW charger (auto on and off etc) and I have some special chargers on route (from Germany) that is a smart trickle maintainer as well as a bettery charger and fits in the palm of your hand to boot. Well my hand Because of the smaller size I am going to permenantly mount the charger in my car and be done with it. Most of these units are maintainers but so do not actually charge the battery persay. The one I am beta testing will actually charge a low/dead battery and maintain it and auto shut on off etc. State of the art stuff apparently. I'll keep you guys posted.

Up until last winter I used to store my car in a place with no hydro. All I ever did was disconnect the negative cable and leave it. In 7 years I never had an issue with the car when I picked it up in the spring. I have used an AGM battery for the last # of years, dont know if that makes a difference or not.

Default actually, it's a Float Charger

What everyone here is talking about is a FLOAT CHARGER, not a trickle charger.

A trickle charger will wreck your battery as it supplies a small constant charge current continuously. ie It never shuts off.

A float charger automagically turns off or on depending on the charge state of the battery. ie It only charges the battery when it senses that the attached load (the car) has reduced the battery's potential enough to require a charge.

Please don't get them mixed up.

The one year when I had to remove my battery 4 storage ,I brought it home & kept the battery Tender on it.Put the battery back in the spring & drove it home no issues.Part that puzzles me tho, I didn't even lose my radio pre-sets (02 C5) I've also disconnected my C6 battery for a short period of time & didn't lose any pre-sets/info.Still trying to figure this one out.

The only thing I do before disconnecting the battery is disable the theft -deterrent feature. Does not have to be done as you can recover from the radio LOC condition in the spring. See manual for details.

If you disconnect the negative battery terminal don't you lose all your settings? ie..memory settings, radio, dic settings, etc.
