Default EcoDiesel

It's more of an off topic but thought to see if anyone was curious.

I had a 2014 Sierra All Terrain which I traded in for a 2014 EcoDiesel Ram limited with Rambox. Really I wanted a new design avalanche but GM sunk that ship.

I have been overly impressed with the lack of gas consumption and thought I'd share if people were on the fence if it was worth it, well it is !

Interesting.

I was looking at the same truck. Testing came out for fuel economy and tests showed it at 11.5 per100/kms.

My f150 5.0 gets tfe same mileage as that.

What's your fuel consumption like real world?

That's really good on that ford motor, when I test drove it I was getting 15L/100km and I was trying to drive easy.

The Ram I'm getting 8L/100km highway and average all together 10.2L/100. If I drive it hard the worse I get is 11.5, but I'd lose my lic if I drive like that all day lol. The 420ft torque is pretty awesome.

My friend posted a picture on facebook...I believe he was getting 6.6L/100km! I asked him to chime in on your post with his 3 or 4 months of experience with his EcoDiesel.

I only have 3,300km so far. Currently getting 800km per tank that's 90 liters. I imagine it will continue to get better as I go

Curious, what is the trucks payload number? Off the little yellow sticker somewhere near the drivers door frame. What options do you have? Leather, sunroof, power sliding rear window, P or LT tires, 4wd, etc.

I'd like to compare it to the old f150 I had and my 2500 Cummins diesel.

Thanks.

I changed the tires to the Goodyear Durac 305/55R20

I purchased the Larmie Limited, full leather with all the possible options rear slider, air ride suspension, basically everything I could order its on there. The interior look and feel just to me feels much more luxury SUV over the work truck feel of the gmc. That is IMO.

The Rambox is awesome, as a contractor they are very handy!

The towing is 9,200. I can check and post the tag on the truck if you like. Welcome to catch up sometime and check it out. Nicer sometimes to talk to an owner instead of a salesman lol.. And I even went I 4 dealerships till finally the 5th treated me really well. Anyone that wants to know I can share the dealership name and the guy that went above and beyond to take care of me.

The Eco diesels weren't available when I was truck shopping. Yes, I'd be interested in the payload number off the yellow tag. A guess, I'd say around 1100/1200 lbs.

My issue was payload. Full load f150 had a 1050 lb payload, the 2500 ram is around 2400. If you tow any size trailer make sure you watch the legal numbers, its an insurance issue.

A good Friend is an auto broker, one of his clients wrecked his truck and trailer and killed a lady, the family is suing the driver. His Ins company said were not paying since you knowingly overloaded the capabilities of your truck. Now the driver of the truck is suing my friends brokerage and the broker who sold the policy. 5.5 million bucks.

2009 f150 with a ATV in the bed and a 28' travel trailer plus all their camping crap. According to ins co reports and photos of the accident the estimated "weight on the truck" was almost 2200lbs, a bit over double what the rated payload figures were on the truck. Truck bed contents, tounge weight, cab contents (less the driver weight) less stickered payload weight = overloaded.

LT tires, airbags, etc don't change the payload sticker. Those things may help the truck handle the weight, but don't help a person legally. I confirmed this with my insurer.

My 2014 Sierra Denali 6.2 liter at 100 Kms of highway driving will read between 11 and 11.5 liters per 100 km in stock form. I have supercharged it and added headers and haven't noticed and change in mpg.

Hi Kevin. You and I went to Canadore together back in the day.
Bus Admin classes together, '94/'96 ish.

My stock 2500 ram with the cummins is around 300hp and 800 ft lbs of TQ. Empty I'm running about 11-12 L/100. Loaded with a 7500lbs ish of camper I ran 16/17L/100 to Ottawa and back

At least it's not terribly far off of the rated fuel mileage numbers and your real use numbers are quite good.

10.2L/100km should be the city driving only economy and not the mixed driving economy, but the highway at 8L/100km is nice even though that's a little above what Dodge is claiming.

Is that what the display says or calculated? On a trip the boss's truck said 12L/100km = 19.6mpg (US) for a tank of fuel. The calculated mileage was 15.7mpg (US). Everyone else here with a F150 goes on about their great economy according to the display but when they go 800-900km and use 120-130L of fuel it calculates to an economy that really isn't that great. I think the Ford displays tend to be very optimistic (ie they lie).

Just picked up a Dodge Ram R/T Hemi a few months ago.

Average about 12.5L.

Last tank, got 630kms until the gas light came on.

Not bad in my books.

Was considering the diesel, but the 5K premium was a killer.
That's alot of gas! Figured it'd take me 3 to 4 years before it'd pay itself off. I'll take the extra power of the Hemi, thank u.

Giggled when it ran a 14.4 at Cayuga.
My '87 5.0L Mustang wouldn't do that back in the day.

That was my thought as well. When I bought mine there was a "diesel discount" equivilant to the cost of the diesel option, a bit over $9000.

The dealer had two identical trucks, one diesel, one Hemi. Color was even the same. Went with the diesel for the torque, resale and ( at least near me) bit cheaper fuel. With the diesel discount it was cheaper than the same Hemi equipped truck.

Since its used primarily to tow a 30ft trailer camper the diesel was a no brainer for me.

The EcoDiesel has more ft pounds than them hemi so not sure what you mean enjoying the more power. Off the line the diesel feels more powerful, just doesn't have the "sound" which is awesome on the hemi !!

Today I saw 7.1 real time average down the highway

Guess the real test is how many liters in a tank and how many km per tank. My 2014 GMC 5.3 4x4 all terrain crew cab could fit 105 liters from bone dry and best was 525-550km. The Ram is 3.0 EcoDiesel 4x4 crew cab fits 94 liters from bone dry and gets 800km both trucks having the same tires since I purchased them for the GMC and kept them and put on the Ram. Only difference is I babied the throttle all day in the GMC and never have to in the Ram. So on average per month I'm saving $360 and if the motor does better as it breaks in as well if I do more driving my savings will increase. It feels odd going to the gas station less lol. The routine feels off.

You asked how the quality of the Ram feels, interior the quality is of a Cadillac the look feel and comfort as well as "toy" options. Feels soild on the drive and with the air suspension drives on clouds all day.

Think the EcoDiesel option is $3,800 and comes with 8 speed tranny. I didn't completely pay attention so I could be off. I'll check the sticker that was in the door of the truck and let you know.

I didn't get a chance to read the payload but I will, that's a crazy story !!!

Terrible. I bought a new longhorn 13 3500 dually last Sept sold it 7 months later. I just saw its up for sale again. Never again cured me of ever owning another Chrysler product.

Replaced it with 15 denali dually never looked back.

My 2 cents.

Here's my 2 cents...

Earlier this summer I traded in my 2013 Ram 1500 Big Horn with a Hemi for a 2014 Ram 1500 with the new EcoDiesel... I do a fair amount of driving, roughly 1000 km's per week and was getting fed up of always filling up lol... My EcoDiesel Ram has almost cut my fuel bill in half... Earlier this summer I drove from Toronto to Chicago and averaged over 30MPG / 7.6L per 100km... this was with the cruise set at the majority of the time at 75MPH/122kmph while in the states... you can see from the gauges that my average recorded speed was 70MPH which included stops... It was 888km there and there was still 1/4 of a tank left with a range of another 251km!!! This is insane fuel economy which I would not believe if I didn't see it myself!!!

My truck has the Blue Spark tuning box installed so it makes about 500lb/ft of torque while getting better than stock fuel economy...

Last weekend I towed my 8000lbs enclosed trailer with my Charger in it to St Thomas from Whitby and averaged 18.5MPG... this is double the fuel economy of the Hemi and the truck pulled like a champ!!

Here's link to a video I did when I took truck to Cayuga... I am a gear head... I can't help it lol... the truck ran in the 15's making it 1 second quicker than stock and faster than a 2500 Ram with a Cummins...

I'm like you I didn't believe the savings I was getting, but WOW

Hey where did you get the Blue Spark tuning? Also, I read in the manual that they will record you having it and it cannot be erased is this true? I don't want to kill my warranty.

I checked the payload it's 1,620lbs, seems pretty good for a 1500 series truck

What is the configuration? Long or short bed? What cab? Quad or extended? 2wd or 4wd?

1620 is a nice number and yes, pretty good for a 1500 (1/2ton).

Yes, calculate it from liters pumped and km driven before blindly believing the trip computer.

You're getting 94/8 = 11.75L/100km (20mpg) average on a tank. That's a 3mpg difference in the wrong direction compared to the 10.2L/100km the trip computer is reporting. Still pretty impressive for a full-size truck used for mixed driving.

The GMC is pretty bad at 20L/100km.
